Hi All!
Read Daniel 11 last nite and with all the North and SOuth stuff I got totally confused. In a nutshell can anyone simplify this section. Daniel 11:30, are these warships from the west.........us?
New in Jesus here, and find this a very good read!
Thanks,
John

I checked in my Dake Bible, which I use a lot. He explains this passage this way:
The ships of Chitim refers to the the Romans who ordered Antiochus to cease the war on his two nephews.
Antiochus said he would consult with his friends, but the Roman legate drew a circle around him and demanded that he give an answer before stepping out of the circle. Antiochus yielded to the demand and left the country after being within 7 miles of Alexandria. This was the cause of the grief referred to in verse 30.
I hope this helps. And hopefully, someone else will have some insight into this passage.
Dake gives this summary of the book of Daniel:
"Daniel contains the prophecies of the Gentile world kingdoms from Daniel's day to the Millennium and eternal kingdom of God on earth (2:38-45; 7:17-27;
8:20-25; 9:24-27; 11:40-12:13). Daniel also records history of Babylon and Medo-Persia under Nebuchadnezzar (2:1-4:37). Belshazza4r (5:1-31; 7:1; 8:1). Darius the Mede (6:1-28; 9:1), and Cyrus the Persian (10:1-11:1). The universal theory that the bok of Daniel covers the whole length of the times of the Gentiles is false. Daniel saw these times as happening from his day on, but that doesn not prove their entire length was predicted by him. He only saw the world kingdoms that were to oppress Israel from his day to the setting up of God's kingdom on earth. He could not predict the history of the oppression of Israel by the Egyptians as Assyrians before his day. There are 8 world empires in the times of the Gentiles."
Hey, it's confusing to most of us. But with a good Bible commentary, and guidance from the Holy Spirit, we can come to an understanding of what God wants us to know.
God Bless.

Well, I'd just like to say that Daniel 11 describes in detail the wars between the Seleucids and the Ptolemies, so the ships from Chiitin were probably Roman vessels under the command of Populius Laenas at the time.
Jer 2:10 has Kedar representing the east, Kedar the west. Daniel 11 is thought by some a vision of the future.
