We aren't talking about the book of Daniel. We are discussing a verse in Mark. See the OP.

Yes i realize that. But if you read the book of matthew where Jesus says the same thing he is talking about he book of Daniel.

But hey, who knows i could be wrong. Its just a thought.

"So when you see standing in the holy place 'the abomination that causes desolation, spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand—
(Matthew 24:15)

I would have trouble with Jesus saying "let the reader understand". To me, it would seem as though he would not say such a thing. Would that not make the Disciples less interested if they knew a future generation would understand something they could not?

I don't think he spoke those words. This has been an excellent topic and question. Great job with the question. :)

I don't think He did, either. It wouldn't have made any sense to His apostles for Him to have made that remark, while He was talking to them about the future signs of the times. I believe that Matthew must have added that for the intended audience of his Gospel. (Well, Matthew or Mark.)

read it, comprehend it.....it....is referring to understanding what the prophet Daniel said, read it, comprehend it.

I just watched the Chuck Missler video linked by WarriorOfTheFather.

Missler's interpretation is that this is a note telling us that we are charged to go, read, and understand what Daniel the prophet has told us in his book.

It seems to me that in Mark 13:14 the reference of 'let the reader understand' is Jesus referring to those who are and will be reading from the writings of Daniel, the prophet. Also, by the time this actually occurs the church will have been raptured, so most of those who are searching the scriptures may have very little knowledge of O.T. prophecy. In Revelation, Jesus tells the apostle John to write what he sees, so it makes sense that he would speak to the readers of his writings.
