A sad sign of the times:
TAMPA, Fla. - In what is being called a "wrongful birth" case, a jury awarded more than $21 million to a couple who claimed a doctor misdiagnosed a severe birth defect in their son, leading them to have a second child with similar problems.

I can understand the need for money to support the children, but read the full article and see what their plans would have been for the second child if the doctor had told them...

Well you can't really blame someone for wanting an abortion of their baby will just bring misery and suffering into their life anyway.
*Waits for people who probably have never known how much parents of retarded children suffer to scream "LIFE at all costs!"*

What is important, the suffering of the parents who bring a child into the world, or giving a child life? It only brings misery and suffering to the parents if they let themselves feel that way ("choose" to feel that way, is more like it). I can see where you stand, and as a "Christian Socialist" I realize you are on the left wing, and I am sure it is very difficult to raise a child with health problems, but I know two couples very well who did it anyway because they are Christians and still love their child. They knew about the problems well beforehand. To end a life because you can't handle raising the child is as selfish as it gets and is playing God, and is the reason abortion is in our society. I do blame them.
And, to bring up the other common pro-choice argument, my wife was raped and impregnated and made the choice to raise her daughter. It's all about what's in a person's heart. Parenting is the hardest job there is, but also the most rewarding, no matter what problems the child may face.

Imagine if Mary the mother of JESUS wanted to sue for a wrongful birth. :gaah
Then there's Beethoven, and others like him who are much more than a physical body. There is a soul in there. The body, no matter what the defect, is only the vehicle for the soul.
The body born perfect, can always be mangled in a car accident, paraylzed or diseased too. Wouldn't want parents to be inconvenienced, maybe we should pull the plug if our perfect children become imperfect.
Seems we only accept flesh, perfect, young flesh....pretty sad and VERY shallow...
GOD isn't going to take much more of this.

When my husband and I got married, we never knew that the problems he had with his feet involved more than his feet and was a hereditary condition. Our daughter was born with the disease and has suffered mightily. We now have 2 grandkids with the disease who suffer tremendously. My husband, my daughter and my grandkids are all precious gifts from God. He has always known these children would be born with this disease. He has always known how they would suffer and how our hearts would break. When my youngest grandbaby was diagnosed, I can't say it came as a shock, but I was hoping against hope that she wouldn't have the disease. The Sunday after she was diagnosed, I couldn't hold back my tears in my Sunday School class. I was so overcome by my grief that I couldn't speak, so my best friend, with my permission, told everyone why I was so grief stricken. My husband and my daughter have been such blessings to others. My daughter's MIL is becoming more disabled every day, due to her diabetes. My daughter, who is full of mercy and empathy, does all she can to minister to her MIL. I know how people suffer over the sufferings of their children, but if God thought there was no value in permitting that pregnancy to go full term and that child to be born alive, He would end the pregnancy. There is no such thing as wrongful life. That implies that God has erred. It is impossible for God to make a mistake or to do the wrong thing. Every child that God allows to be conceived is a beautiful and precious gift and has immeasurable worth that comes from God, no matter the circumstances.

There was no disease when GOD created man.
We sin against GOD, want to abort those who aren't perfect. What is this world coming to?
The day will come soon for those who believe: :scripture
Rev 21:1 ΒΆ And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God [is] with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, [and be] their God.
Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

I think it's sad that we are blinded to God's beautiful creations just because they don't fit into our desires. Abortion is murder, you can attempt to sugar coat it but when it's time for judgement day, are you going to sit in front of the Lord and say, GEE, thanks but not thanks for the precious gift of life you attempted to give to me. It wasn't perfect or it didn't fit into my plans. NO> I have worked with disabled children: some high functioning to physically disabled, they are such a huge blessing to be with. They can make you laugh and cry at the same time. They have a childhood innocence that we all should admire. As far the parents, life is hard sometimes, I know parents of disabled children. They will admit it's a life time commitment and sometimes 24 hour care but one they would not give up if given a choice.
I think it's really sad when we can pick and choose which commandments we chose to follow. Pray on it, since you are a christian ask God to convict you regarding if abortion is right. I know he did me.

Maybe the parents can withhold food like was done to Terri Schiavo then they wouldn't need so much $$ to care for the defective child.

Couple awarded $21 million in Florida 'wrongful birth' case
Had the disorder been correctly diagnosed, a test would have indicated whether the couple's second child also was afflicted and they would have terminated the pregnancy, according to the lawsuit.
This is a really disturbing precedent. So now we can sue for money for missing an opportunity to practice eugenics through abortion. Also sue for midiagnosing birth defect? Is this defect that easily found??
Lets determine which parent passed the gene, i think that person needs to be sued too. Also sue the family line all the way back to the person introduced it into the gene pool of the family.
