Thought I'd stick up a poll for this one. This passage has always confused me
15:32 And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.
15:33 And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.
15:34 And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.
15:35 And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.
15:36 And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses
so we've got this guy that gathers sticks in the wilderness, I assume for a bit of firewood, not sure why; Perhaps he was cold or faniced cooking a spot of lunch :idunno
Anyway, God doesn't take kindly to this, and orders his death by stoning. He's God, so fair enough. I'm not going to say he's wrong.
My question is this, do you think that verse means we should follow the lead and execute people who violate the sabbath (after due process of law, of course). If you vote no, please explain why not, if we accept the bible as perfect and true. How we can follow other rules and not this one ? can't pick and chose after all.
I think we need to go with the book and execute people for this.

I assume you're refering to Hebrews 8:13 and Acts 13:38-39; but what about Matthew 5:17:18 ??

your assumeing who's refering to Hebrews 18 ..
And what does it have to do with this ???
Fact is Christ Quote was that he left us with but one commandment and law and that was to love one another as he has loved us..
Joh 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
Joh 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
This one new single commandment is repeted over and over and over again through out , Now if some one was to work or eat or collect wood or fix a fence on the sabbath should we love them them as Christ has loved us Then yeah That is The command (Law) directive we have been given even if others hate us for it ..
If you feel you can love some one while killing them with peebles every friday then have at it but count me out :)

32-34. a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day--This incident is evidently narrated as an instance of presumptuous sin. The mere gathering of sticks was not a sinful act and might be necessary for fuel to warm him or to make ready his food. But its being done on the Sabbath altered the entire character of the action. The law of the Sabbath being a plain and positive commandment, this transgression of it was a known and wilful sin, and it was marked by several aggravations. For the deed was done with unblushing boldness in broad daylight, in open defiance of the divine authority--in flagrant inconsistency with His religious connection with Israel, as the covenant-people of God; and it was an application to improper purposes of time, which God had consecrated to Himself and the solemn duties of religion. The offender was brought before the rulers, who, on hearing the painful report, were at a loss to determine what ought to be done. That they should have felt any embarrassment in such a case may seem surprising, in the face of the sabbath law ( Exd 31:14 ). Their difficulty probably arose from this being the first public offense of the kind which had occurred; and the appeal might be made to remove all ground of complaint--to produce a more striking effect, so that the fate of this criminal might be a beacon to warn all Israelites in the future.
Like Soddom and Gommorah...it was done to set an example to any others that would think to do the same.
Again, as mentioned, today we live under grace.

This poll is illogical.........and yes, Spock agrees.
Reminds me of the infamous question: "Have you stopped beating your wife?

Who is the "we" who is going to do this? Our kingdom is not of this world.
Even Israel can't do this. Since Shiloh came, the sceptre has departed from Judah (Gen 49:10).
