Hi, I am looking for some resources to help my 6 & 9 yo boys study the bible. I would really like it to be something that I can work with them on. I'm looking for something for us to do over the summer. I have been really let down by our church's program for the kids and it is obviously my responsibility to be teaching them about God. Any suggestions? I am not homeschooling but didn't know where else to post this.
Thanks in advance.

I don't use a Bible study program. We just sit down and start reading, then we have a discussion while we are reading.
Usually we choose a book in the Bible we want to read, and then have at it. I have several commentaries in my home for reference, but other than that I don't use anything except for the Bible.

We've used the Bob Jones Bible study curricula, which they have for all age groups. Two things I like about it for kids are the colorful pages, and each page has a different activity. One day the child is reading a Bible passage for answers to questions about the passage; the next day he's completing a puzzle, or gluing something. The kids get the concepts too. There's a teacher manual you can get, but I've never bothered. I just get the workbooks.

Great concept. I am sure that really helps with the comprehension of what they've just read.

So, I would need 2 workbooks since I have 2 kids? Is that a silly question? LOL.
Thank you for the info.

I use this for my 2nd grade class in childrens ministry. You can request free samples to review from the link above. We use the Bible-in-Life curriculum.

I don't have a 9 year old but I have a six year old, so I'll tell you what our family does.
Devotions daily. This is just reading and discussing 10 or so verses of scripture, followed by songs (we have done all sorts of edifying songs, and are now doing scripture memorization songs). Many days we also do a Psalm reading. Every night before bed, they get a Proverb (based on the day of the month). In addition, my 6 year old has started outlining the Bible (at his level..one sentence per chapter).
My oldest did Bob Jones second grade this year (kindergarten) and it was very easy for him. We decided the value was not there FOR US!!! (in other words, if you determine Bob Jones is good for you, please do it. It's a great curriculum, but I did not think it was challenging enough) and are going with something different next school year.
Next year we're doing Answers for Kids. This looks to be a bit more challenging. Our soon to be 5 year old will be integrated into this multi-level curriculum as well (he's an early reader..jealous of his brother, I guess). I can't report on it yet as it is just now ordered with AIG's free shipping offer (coupon code SENDFREE..expires 31 May 2009).
We considered not doing a formal Bible curriculum this year, and just sticking with individual and family devotion time, but thought the AIG curriculum might be a good fit.
One other thing we have but feel might be a bit too much for ours is "Balancing the Sword" from Vision Forum
We'll probably save that until he's a year or two older (third or fourth grade).
Good luck in your search. There is not a lot out there in the early elementary age range.
ps. Had all the stuff linked but not allowed to post links. PM me for direct links if you can't find what I'm talking about on AIG or VF.

Precept Ministries (Kay Arthur) Has excellent Bible Study resources. I have 4 children all home schooled. One in college now, one graduates this year and two to go. http://www.precept.org/school My youngest is 12 and has been doing Precept Study for Kids for the past 4 years. The rest have all done the studies for at least 8 years. Do a search for the D4Y (Discover For Yourself) Series.
