In his upcoming biography of Jesus, "Basic Instinct" director Paul Verhoeven will say that Jesus was probably the son of Mary and a Roman soldier who raped her during the Jewish uprising in Galilee, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Verhoeven also claims that Christ was not betrayed by Judas Iscariot.

The director, who also directed "Showgirls," claims to portray Jesus in the most realistic way in his book, co-written by his biographer, Rob van Scheers, and due in September.

Published by Amsterdam-based Meulenhoff, the book is the result of more than 20 years of research.

Over the years, Verhoeven, who is Catholic and holds a Ph.D. in mathematics and physics from the University of Leiden, was a regular attendee of U.S. scholar Robert W. Funk's Jesus seminars, which call into question miracles and statements attributed to Jesus. He is also reported to be a member of the Jesus Seminar, a group of scholars that debate the historical facts of the bible.

Verhoeven, who turns 70 in July, has had a lifelong ambition to make a film about Jesus, based on scientific research. Verhoeven decided to write the book to raise interest in the project. His publisher is in negotiations for an English-language translation, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Considering the the "nice, wholesome" movies he's put out, he is hardly a credible authority on the things of Christ:rolleyes

You took the words right out of my "thoughts"! I can't believe the audacity of people who has no clue about Jesus, but who make themselves out to be authorities. Why don't they make movies about Mohammed of Buddah and leave our Jesus alone! (I know... I know..., this is yet again another sign! - Looking up!)

"Basic Instinct" director Paul Verhoeven has written a book that contradicts biblical teaching by suggesting that Jesus might have been fathered by a Roman soldier who raped Mary. :doh

Will the morons never stop!!! (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080423/ap_on_re_eu/books_jesus)

The author is facing eternal hellfire - the boldness of his actions is evident of the day in which we live.

But then there is the DaVinchi Code too

The DaVinci Code was advertized as fiction, this dude is putting this forth as researched fact. There is a difference;)
He is not going to have much fun after Father blows His Trump and we go home.
The sad part is how many will grab onto this lie from the lips of Satan, and fall into the enemy's trap. Needless to say, this man and others like him will give account in the day of reckoning to the One he is blaspheming, and bow their knee to our Lord of Lords.
Maranatha! :rapture

This is an old legend to try to explain things away. Every now and again someone feels the need to regurgitate this rubbish.

Dave - Granted on the Code,

But the Protocols of Zion is a work of fiction and the muslim world regards it as gospel. I know they also quote from the gospel of Judas when debating "Paulist".

Yeah, it wouldn't be surprising if he was from that brain trust called the Jesus seminar. Their the group that can't even understand how all their arguments rest on circular logic: Miracles can't occur, therefore they didn't occur, and anyone who says they did is wrong or lying, because miracles can't occur, therefore they didn't occur, and anyone who says they did is wrong or lying, because miracles can't occur.....
