I grew up in southern New England and I'm FASCINATED by the early history of the area.
Metacom, (AKA. "King Phillip") was the younger son of the American Indian sachem (Massasoit) who was friendly with the Pilgrims in the early-mid 1600's. Fifty years later, the next generation of the Indians and Pilgrims fought each other in the "King Phillip War". It's a very interesting but little known part of early American history.

So anyway, my username (Metacom) came from the Indian name for the Wampanoag Indian sachem who started the war with the British in America. He was also called Metacomet, Pometacom and his English name was King Phillip.

I chose it partly in honor of him because I think he and that whole period of history are FASCINATING and because I am a native (not to be confused with "native american") of south east New England.

If anyone wants to read about this stuff, I _HIGHLY_ recommend a book called "Mayflower" by Nathaniel Philbrick. It's one of the best books I've ever read and has a whole section about the King Phillip War.
I don't want to derail this thread, but I loved that book (Mayflower). It was great. Then again, history is fascinating to me.

snugsy

It was Ian, my partner who came up with my name. It is a shortened version of his nickname for me... snugggles. He says its because I love to snuggle up or be snuggled with. So now he calls me snugsy usually. I can always tell when I'm in his bad books, he calls me Anne, my real name.

The other post about names on here made me wonder
why people would choose those names. So, thought I'd
ask why you chose the member name you did? I chose
Pedxing from pedestrian crossing. You know the white
spaces on the road when you can safely walk across.
It seemed like something I could remember easy. Anyone
else like to tell someting about their name?

I always loved the imagery induced when reading biblical passages. The image of a peaceful expanse of water made me concious of a deep feeling of connection with the father. Thank you for the question.

Verisimilitude

Mine is a little play on the word. Veri means truth. Similitude meaning likeness, comparison or appearance of. Put together it means the appearance of truth and that is what I am waiting for, the return of Jesus Who is the Truth. When He appears, that will be the appearance of Truth I am waiting for.

My user name is actually our old cat's name! Years ago when my oldest daughter was little we got a little siamese cat with a bad attitude. My daughter loved watching "Rugrats" at the time so she thought it would be funny to name the cat "Angelica" after the character on the show.

Afterwards, on message boards or websites I would always chose the name after our cat bc I thought it was funny.

Timothy Brian Maynard...I have learned to respect myself and where I'm going. I am not perfect. I am fragile. I am humbled. :doh

This thread has slipped under the radar for me, maybe because it is 'sticky' I tend to start reading below those.

My computer skills are pretty basic and when I started out trying to interact with the board I would get so far and no farther. This went on periodically for about 9 months (real slow learner here) until early this year, not to be outdone I started throwing a number of possible user names in the pot because that seemed to be the sticking point. Someone in the 'powers that be' took pity on me and chose one at random out of my list and :yeah I was in! It still took me about a week to realize that though, think Buzz sent me a message which got me on track.

Poppycat is the name of my eldest granddaughter's cat and is a real sweetie, also easy for me to remember. (Still think they should have gone with El Thicko!!!!.) Even my first name Jan was rejected :idunno :lol2

Reading this thread I've become aware of how many do not post anymore, bit sad.

Picked it up from the quote "Give me liberty, or give me death!"
That sorta summed up my attitude re: life, so I just translated the quote to "freedomnut"!
