We need to question strongly that which is extra- biblical as in the link that Ba123 gave in the previous post.
"Rabbinical tradition teaches us that a solar eclipse is a bad omen for the world."
Imo, rabbinical teaching does not trump the Word of God.
The Word of God teaches me not to fear, to trust God, to look up because my redemption is near, to occupy til He comes. August 1st, is just another day to serve the Lord with gladness and watch and wait for His coming!
I agree Mary Rae.

Where did you find that information?

Here's some verses that COULD relate to these eclipses, FWIW...
Isaiah 13:10, 13:13
10 The stars of heaven and their constellations
will not show their light.
The rising sun will be darkened
and the moon will not give its light.
13 Therefore I will make the heavens tremble;
and the earth will shake from its place
at the wrath of the LORD Almighty,
in the day of his burning anger.
Isaiah 34:4
4 All the stars of the heavens will be dissolved
and the sky rolled up like a scroll;
all the starry host will fall
like withered leaves from the vine,
like shriveled figs from the fig tree.
Matthew 24:29
29 Immediately after the distress of those days
'the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.
Are these events literal or symbolic?
Are there any OT scriptures that talks about the significance of eclipses occuring on feast days?

A solar eclipse is an evil omen for the nations of the world; a lunar eclipse is an evil omen for the Jews. This is because the Jewish calendar is based on the moon whereas the secular calendar is based on the sun. Talmud, Succah 29a
Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known. Jeremiah 33:3

Thats based on assumptions really. There is nothing in the bible that says a solar eclipse is an evil omen for the gentiles an a lunar eclipse is an evil omen for the Jews.
I do though believe that God uses the stars (sun and moon) and the heavens to show signs to mark special events as it is written in the bible and supported by scripture. But no where in scripture are those signs SPECIFIC to the solar or lunar eclipses.

Thanks, Chris. When I posted, the link was still up. I didn't read any further comments from other bloggers because the first sentence on the site was such a red flag for me.

On the news today it said the eclipse could be seen in Baghdad...and most of the middle east, China, etc. My son's in Iraq now, have to ask him about it!

I don't see any signifcant event ocurring simply because there is a solar eclypse.
Israel is barely in the shadow of the event at all if the map is correct.
I think it will be business as usual on August 1st.
Fun to speculate however.
