Hello,
I consider myself a serious low-lower mid-range photographer and need your help a bit. Though I'm not a professional, I would like to by having my colors come out accurate as possible on my computer display.
I have read CRT monitors were better than LCDs because of a better color gamut but it seems CRTs are dying fast. Help me find the best LCD display I can within my budget of $500.00. What should I look for in specs? I think color contrast ratio is probably important and refresh rate is more relating to video. Anything else? Any brand/model reviews and/or suggestions?

Sorry try again. I would go with the Dell 2405FPW.

I cannot say good enough things about this monitor. Type in 2405fpw in google and you will get nothing but glowing reviews. This produces the best eyecandy and has and does everything including highdef tv.
It is the swiss army knife of monitors.

There are some cheaper monitors and some that produce slightly better image quality but this is the all in one monitor i like to recommend to people.
I'll do a little more research though and see what others are considered best in that price range.

Alright i have looked into the matter a little deeper and found a couple(aside from my all around choice above) that are absolutely top notch for photo editing at your price range.
Strongpoints;
* High contrast at medium brightness
* Accurate color/gamma curve

This one is a little cheaper & smaller but still excellent photo quality.
