KJV
1Cr 5:9I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:

1Cr 5:10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.

1Cr 5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

NIV
1Cr 5:9

I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people–
1Cr 5:10
not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world.
1Cr 5:11

But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.

So is verse 10 saying this if i understand it; That we must be among the the people committing sexual & other sins in the world because we are sharing the gospel with them but within the church we must separate ourselves from these people.

I thnk we have to be very careful who we spend time with. We certainly want to be a witness to the unsaved in the world, but we have to be careful to "not be unequally yoked" with them. I have a dear Christian friend who spends much of her time with a couple of neighbors of hers who are not saved. She wants to be a good witness to them, but I fear the opposite is happening - they are having an influence on her. When I visit with her, I can tell right away if she's been spending a lot of time with them. It is easy sometimes to allow the attitudes of the world to creep into us, and making it difficult for others to see the difference in us.

And I do think that we should separate ourselves from those who are committing sin knowlingly, ie. Christians in the church. We surely want to present the Gospel to them also, but there again, "not to be unequally yoked."
And Paul's epistle to the Corinthians, in 5:9-11 clearly makes a distinction between world sinners and church sinners. Paul says that if we allow the sinful person to continue in our midst without judgment, the whole church will become ruined by moral impurities.

Galatians 6:1 "Brethren, if a man be overtaken (found out or detected) in a fault (to stumble), ye which are spiritual, restore (to lead him back to his place in Christ) such an one in the spirit of meekness (with love, not exalting yourself above the same fault)......."

He goes on to say "...considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye ne another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ." We should show mercy and love, and should not brow-beat a fallen brother. refer to John 13:34 and 15:12.

I think there's also another passage, although I can't seem to find it, that says if one in the body is found in sin, you should go to him. If he won't listen, take another, then put him out of your midst. (Maybe someone else can help on this reference).

In love, always approaching others in love.

God Bless,
Linda

there is a lot more to the truth over all ..

Remember also we are told we have to live in the world with all But we do not have to conform to what people out side God word do..

we do have to becareful for sure But we have to be careful in two ways Remember when we are dealing with Things like fornication adultry and other things we also must be carefull because we also have walked into THe world of Rumor Envy jeliousy anger and more of others who maybe passing spreading this about another out of bitterness ...

When you read 1cor 13 you get a picture of god like love perfect love and what it is not ..

Remember Those not saved still needing to find christ THey do not need to be Condemed at all They already are ..

as for Brothers and sisters one has to be more carefull because if you accuse a brother of sister of something wrongfully you not only condem them but if your wrong you also are condemed untill both seek forgiveness of each other for the wrong ..

Keep in mind after we are saved our sins are forgiven all of them yesterday today and forever how ever forgiveness and repentance are different things..

Repentance is an agreement or vow with the lord to repent and turn from a sin in your life you feel the conviction from the holy spriit about meaning to turn from that sin and not look back..

Issolateing any brother or sister because of a sin is a very serious thing unless you know there heart or they have spoke of returning or remaining in a in they have repented if one is wrong they become guilty as well of things..

Good rule is if Sins are forgive and God can't see them either should we not all are convicted to repent of all sins suddenly The Lord will never put more on us then we are ready to handle we are working toward perfection we are not perfect we are human ..

also remember when we commune partake of the bread and wine we are to be sure we are not at odds in any way with any brother or sister or have no ill will we are to seek and ask forgiveness and forgive all as we have been forgiven we are told it is possible to commune unto death if we part take with unforgiveness in our hearts for others ...

it is only our job to witness and bring the lost to savation it is best leaveing the conviction of repentance to the holy spirit.. not all are strong enough in there faith for repantance of some sins this weakness can lead them to fall back in to there sin..

This is what is met when we read there are some sin we are not told to pray for there are some sins that lead to death.. Not a lose of salvation per say But if one repents of a sin in there life and remains in it Without turning them self around for good the Lord wil remove them from this life some how before they do commit an unforgivable sin against the holy spirit ..

the next step in repentance after being saved is forgiveing ones self of there Wrong and the guilt they feel being condemed by others is really not what is needed.. frist one needs to know the Lord become saved, start to allow the holyspirit to work in there life , and forgive them self before this they can not even begin to step into the realm of truely forgiveing others..
Keep in mind sins such as fornication and adulry and such are all sins against ones own Body or Temple of the holy spirit not others...

I'd sure like to study this out some more. Can you give some Scripture references about God removing someone from this life before they commit an unforgiveable sin if they repent of a sin and then remain in it?

Thanks and God Bless.

Okay, when Paul wrote:I wrote unto you an epistle, he's referring to a previous letter that the Corinthians misinterprted to mean that, in order to separate themselves from sin, they have to disassociated with all immoral persons, including non-Christians.

Paul's correcting that misconception here by saying they should separate from immoral persons in the church that claims to be Christian. 1 Corinthians 5:11 goes on to that it's wrong to call oneself a Christian while still living an immoral life, and to do is a degrading false testimony to Christ.

Jetho has the right context.

NASB
9 I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people;
10 I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolaters, for then you would have to go out of the world.
11 But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler--not even to eat with such a one.
12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church?
13 But those who are outside, God judges.

ESV
9 I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people—
10 not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world.
11 But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.
12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge?
13 God judges those outside. Purge the evil person from among you.

I have heard it said that you can't be surprised at a non-Christian for their sin, as they do not have the knowledge or the Holy Spirit. But one in the church, who claims to be a Christian, yet lives as the "world" needs to be held accountable to their testimony in Christ. Not just an occasional slip but in habitual, un-repentant behavior. (Not just gone astray.)

The passage that graceforme is referring to is in Matthew 18:15-17
AND it comes after the parable of the lost sheep that went astray.

yes that is it :)

i didn't post the scripture I mentioned we are not the judge or to condem the outside not told not to go out and withness God is the judge people who are not saved are already condemed..

Really what paul was trying to get acrost in the letter was to judge your self They were in to rich and poor alike useing the bread for commuion for there dinner and drinking the Wine to party and be Drunk make merry leaveing nothing for what it was ment for ..

SOme in this church were truely becomeing greedy, Drunks, swinlers, revilers and other things at the cost of real worship and faith within the body causeing others around them to see the goings on and causeing many to weaken or fall From the faith The Church was dieing more or less to its own excess ..

after a short discussion here with My ministry partners was decided I post more on how we should use caution in useing these scripture as a license to judge based on Rumor or hear say rather then facts cause judgeing condeming wrong fully You become judged and condemed you self ..
