"another finding was, man-made chemicals called xenoestrogens, which mimic estrogen in the human body and contribute to hormone imbalance, are found in common consumer products like plastics, detergents, birth control pills and hormone replacement therapy, and antibiotics in animal feed."

I was told about this a few years back by a supervisor, (nurse) and thought it to be interesting...but looked it up online and just found this so far. I suggest all you conscience ladies do your own search on this.
I remember my old boss saying that they (whoever they are :scratch) said that males are becoming more and more sterile for this reason.

Just thought I would do a post on this, information anyway.. and I think it is worthwhile info. :idunno

I've been teaching this stuff for over 6 years and even teach a monthly seminar at a doctors office on it. You have no idea how much this is hurting us. Infertility, early miscarriage, migraine headaches, unexplained weight gain, hard to lose weight, adult acne, fibromyalgia and other auto immune diseases, breast cancer that has gone from 1 in 70 to 1 in 7, prostate cancer, breast cancer in men, mood swings, depression, PMS, PPD and tons more. Hormones affect every single cell in your body and run most of your bodily systems. When they are out of whack due to too much estrogen, especially the harsh estrogens found in our society, our bodies just can't handle it.

Food we eat, pesticides, hormone injections in our meat, overuse of antibiotics both in humans and our meat, cleaning products, fertilizers, birth control pills/patch/injections, HRT and ERT, STRESS (yes this is a biggie because stress actually lowers your progesterone which is your one defense against too much estrogen), etc.

You have to make conscience choices in your food, environment and your lifestyle. It can be done in stages to make it easier but if we don't we are looking down the road at more dangerous cancers, infertility, and more.

i think i had read something somewhere about the plastics we package our foods in can also give off chemicals that mimic hormones and can cause problems.

i guess when the plastic is overheated or melts slightly it releases stuff into the food.

i don't know if this was some urban legend (it was around the time of underarm deodorant causes breast cancer and tampons have fiberglass in them :ohno rumors) or if it is based on real information....

anyone else read or hear something like that?

Yes, this is true. I no longer use any plastic in the microwave because of some of the things I read. they can be toxic.

Thanks Kathe for backing this one up...this is real..and it is scary..we are so messed up these days, I read on this very board about the pain of fibro...depression, cancers, the weight problems, miscarriages, and of course PMS, and PDD...UGH!

I thought this was a good idea to post this. My boss talked with me about this quite a few years back, and for some reason I just recalled the conversation and did a quick search and found evidence of this fact.

I can't understand how this is being allowed, how come it is isn't out more..wonder how far it would go out if the news started reporting about this stuff. Then again, I wonder if they had tried before. This should be IMO very news worthy.

You should never eat or drink anything that comes in plastic. A lot of food products are put into plastic containers hot, not to mention stored in hot warehouses and put on trucks that get heated while traveling. I have stopped (for the most part) drinking water from plastic water bottles also. Don't cook in plastic, cover food in plastic when microwaving, etc. Heat in glass or ceramic only. Estrogen properties can leach into your foods even from those plastics considered "safe". No such thing. If you buy food in a plastic cooking container, dump it into another container before cooking.

Also, because most skin and body care products contain animal by-products and therefore hormones, antibiotics, etc (same as your food) and since things you put on your skin are absorbed into your body very quickly, you need to read the labels on your health and beauty aids products.

There is a pretty good book out there about animal by-products called Mad Cowboy - can't remember the author at the moment.

In google, type in "rendering plant" and get a lot more than you bargained for. It's what got me started on a health kick. You'll never eat gelatin again.

You know, what you said about why isn't more done about this is a question I get asked a lot. There was a news article in USA today a few years back about the skin care industry and some of the stuff I wrote in the above post. Not much was done about it.

There are lobbyists that come from huge industries with tons of money that far outweigh our small voices in the media. I've come to the conclusion that I can change my family and be a voice to one person at a time. So I tell people, one at a time, about what I know. Hopefully it makes a difference.

The hormones in milk and other diary and meats is also what's causing girls to start menstruation and development earlier and earlier. I am also of the opinion that the hormone overdoses most people are getting from food is what's causing a lot of the systemic cancers. Simple changes can go a long way toward good health: switch to soy milk (it tastes wonderful and comes in a paper carton), buy eggs without hormones and antibiotics (a little more expensive, but worth it), buy organic chicken (no antibiotics or hormones), don't eat beef, and eat more turkey (it's illegal for them to put hormones in turkey). Also, virtually all corn is contaminated with mycotoxins now, so avoid anything with corn (which is very hard to do; it's in everything).

Newborn, there is a lot of research coming out on soy and if I were you I would look into that before switching over to it. The Weston Price organization (I don't have the website handy) has a ton of info on it.

Everyone else,

We buy real milk. Meaning straight from the cow from an organic dairy farmer. We also get all of our meat, dairy, poultry and eggs from him. No antibiotics, no hormones and it tastes amazing. The milk tastes wonderful and I have friends who are lactose intolerant that can drink it - why? Because without the processing the natural enzymes are left in it and those digest the dairy beautifully. Just like God intended.

Rule of thumb at our house - eat food as close to how God made it as possible. The less processing, the better. He made our bodies, He knows what is good for it. Stay away from the inner aisles at the grocery store. Shop the outside aisles only and buy organice as much as possible. Yes it does cost a little more now (although the prices are coming down a lot) but you will either pay now for good health or later on down the road for bad health. Your choice!

Kathe

ps. Newborn you are right on with girls starting their cycles younger, growing breasts younger, etc. It is coming from our meat and dairy with the hormones. Contrary to popular belief you don't cook out the hormones. (yes I hear this a lot).
