But we are all supposed to evangelize (witness) and we are all supposed to teach, right?
Yes, we should all offer our witness, but unless we're divinely gifted as an evangelist or teacher we probably won't produce much fruit nor teach anyone much of anything. We're each given different Spiritual gifts Amy:
"...But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that." (1 Corinthians 7:7b KJV)
Evangelism and teaching are only two of the gifts the Lord can provide (Ephesians 4:8). The Bible says that it's the Lord who's empowers you to use your particular Spirital gift, because without Him providing a gift, you couldn't do it. Mr. Comfort is not attributing his gift of evangelism to the Lord's leading, but to his own leading. Remember, NO ONE comes to the saving knowledge of Jesus without the intervention of the Holy Spirit:
"And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:11 KJV)
Ray Comfort's 'love for the lost' feeling comes from God too (1 John 4:7). Mr. Comfort needs to start giving God the credit for those he may lead to salvation and not credit his own 'love for the lost'.
Using my website and the "If You're New Here Please Read" topic as an example Amy, I've been gifted with evangelism and exhortation (1 Timothy 4:13, 14a). What particular gift or gifts do you feel the Lord has provided you?

I, too, think that there are people who are given the gift of evangelism. However, I do think when it crosses our paths that each one of us will be called to witness at one time or another in our lives. I think if we are open to the Holy Spirits guidance that we will know when that moment or moments occur.

Exactly. We should never miss an opportunity to witness that the Spirit lays at our doorstep. But if we have not been blessed with an evangelistic spirit, we should not be disappointed if we don't produce immediate fruit. We may simply be planting the seed that another brother or sister with the gift of evangelism will cultivate later.

I think we need to stay so in awe of the unbelievable grace and mercy of the Lord for our own salvation that we have a burden in our hearts for the lost/unbelievers all the time. If we don't have a "gift" to evangelize (I am not a good debator/apologist, you'll see I even stay out of the debates here on RR! My tang gets tungled.:)), we can still live our lives in a kind of permanent revival... hearts on fire for the Lord... hearts full of shout-it-out joy at His mercy to us... saving us not because we deserve anything but because He LOVES us. This witness with our lives speaks louder than words. And our prayers are just as effective if not more so than our verbal witnessing... because salvation is the Lord's work.
I do think that some definitely have a gift of evangelism. But just as God created us with different styles of learning, God will help those of us who don't have a way with words, witness to those around us with exactly what is needed, if we are open to the Holy Spirit's leading. This is where Amy Elisabeth's point comes in I think: we are all evangelists and teachers, in different ways with different styles. He plants us where we are for a reason. Do our friends/family know we are saved and that we love Jesus? Do our coworkers know? How do we live our faith every day so others can see it? Maybe this kind of witnessing speaks louder than words.
I just know that God used the telemarketer the other day to increase my boldness. Something I've been praying for. God will teach me and use me as He wills... I just want to be open and ready and faithful!

I want to say since I put up my myspace site I have had so much fun. When I get a obscene IM I return it by witnessing to them. They usually then leave me alone and remove themselves from my list rather quickly. But at least the Word has it's chance to convict them.If they want to stay and talk after that thats cool. God's word will not return void. I do the same to telemarketers.

Trish Ramos of Way of the Master Radio said that in California, a telemarketer cannot hang up until you do, which provides a wonderful opportunity to witness. It's like having a captive audience. :heh
She said she usually lets them do their sales pitch and then very nicely tells them she's not interested in whatever they are selling, and then says something along the lines of "since I gave you a moment of my time, can I have a moment of yours"? She's yet to have anyone say "no" because of the way she goes about it. :thumb
