The Switched On Schoolhouse really looks appealing. My son is going into grade 4. We have been using Rod & Staff since the beginning. But he was really getting bored with it last year. Its not that it was wasn't challenging. It was just a drag to do. He is a computer nut... so im thinking about SOS. I read some reviews and wasnt pleased with what i read.
I read some about here and made me consider it again. If not SOS. is there another one like it? please help me!
thanks!

You might want to try a combination of computer programs and text books, to see if he likes working on the computer and to give some variety. There are several computer based programs out there that specialize in certain subjects.
Teaching Textbooks (http://www.teachingtextbooks.com/) is a computer based math program.
The Grammar Key (http://www.grammarkey.com/) is a computer based grammar program.
There are also online homeschooling options available. http://www.home-school-curriculum-advisor.com/online-home-school.html
I forgot to add Rosetta Stone, (http://www.rosettastone.com/) which is a computer based language program. It's pretty expensive, but if you can find it on ebay or Amazon, sometimes you can get a pretty good deal. It's very popular, and very thorough. I have one, and my husband is using it right now to help him with his college level Spanish class.

My son used Time4Learning for while. It's not Christian based but I found it okay for the most part. He is a computer kid too and really enjoyed it. We don't use it at the moment as I am working on some remedial stuff with him as he is dyslexic.
Also, www.homeschoolreviews.com has been a great help to me when researching curriculum.

ABEKA History, Science, Reading are great. We enjoy Saxon Math and Winston Grammar. Been schooling since she was born, she gets bored...we add movies, projects, and field trips to spice it up!!

I wouldn't have my kids do all their school work on computer, but it's good to mix it up and have some work done from books, some from projects, some auditory, some on computer . . . Being on a computer for hours at a time is just not good for developing brains because of the limited areas of the brain it uses.
Personal interaction is important and because kids are so relational, they actually learn better when interacting with another person. My youngest (11) is also really into computers, but did not like Rosetta Stone. Why? Because he said it's more fun learning a language with other people (we have him in a co-op class for that). However, he loves to supplement his grammar, spelling and math with fun online computer activities.
I have 3 kids and we've used lots of stuff. Bob Jones math, Apologia science, Easy Grammar, Write the 5 Paragraph Model, Dr. Fry's spelling, Beautiful Feet history, Diana Waring history, Bob Jones history, . . .
