View Full Version : Can Satan Answer Prayers?

My pastor mentioned the other night something that I had never heard of or even considered before, and I still cannot bring myself to believe it.
He said that Satan answers prayers.

I know that Satan is the father of lies, a great deceiver, but I do not believe that God has given him the power to answer prayer. I spoke to my pastor briefly about it yesterday, to find out if it was really what he meant to say, and he said it again. He got another call as we were talking, so I did not have time to question him further. After I hung up the phone, I wished that I would have asked him to give me any scripture to back up what he was saying, because I sure could not think of any, and I've read through the bible four or five times.

Pastor has said before in church that one of the ways to know for sure that you are saved, is that some of your prayers are being answered, and I believe that to be a true statement. But if that statement is true, then how can the other statement about Satan be true?

I would appreciate hearing others' thoughts about this, and especially scripture if you can find any. That struck me as being so strange that he would say something like that in church. :scratch :idunno

I'm not going to tell you that you should leave your church, but I think you need to be in SERIOUS prayer about it!!! JMO

Well now think about that a little bit. satan cannot answer prayers like God does because he's not omniscient, omnipresent etc. However, if some satanist had contact with a demon or satan himself and if the demon and/or satan heard the request he might choose to grant it if it were in his power to do so.

he can't hear everyone's prayers. he can't read our minds. he can't be everywhere all the time. So he sends his minions/demons out for that. If someone were into the occult thus in contact with these entities then spoke their request out loud then it's possible one might hear it and report it to satan or satan may have already granted the demon permission to answer any verbal request this occult person requests if it's within their power.

Now, then again, if a person is that deep into the occult to pray to satan they may very well be possessed thus the demon would know the person's thoughts......same scenario.

But that's not prayer answering like with God. It's hearing a request and granting it if he can. Like, "Hey Third Day can I borrow your car?" and you answer "Yes, here's the keys." etc.

Does that make sense? I just wouldn't use the word "prayer" in the context your pastor did but demons DO hang around certain people and if that person is a follower of satan then I'd say satan would be stupid not to grant that person's wish/request if it were in his power cause if he couldn't then he'd lose that person as a follower.

It's late. Maybe this makes sense......maybe it doesn't.:idunno :aha

I would respectively ask the Pastor to show me, in the bible, where he got his information. Before that, I would spend some alone time with God, asking for discernment and I would spend time listening to what the Lord has to say to me. After talking to the Pastor, I would get alone with the Lord again asking Him to guide me and my spouse. I would ask God if He's calling us out of that church and to another.

you really need to get some scripture to back this up...I am not really sure what to think I mean satan is not omniscient(all knowing)omnipresent(all present) as God is, he(satan) doesnt know our thoughts....Im just not sure I would need scripture and prayer before I made a final decesion on what I thought

A very good analogy Dee.

I use this analogy to explain fortune-tellers too.

Maybe what you paster was talking about was someone involved in a cult. Take as example the "burning in the bosom" that Mormons talk about. As a former Mormon I had this experience. It had to be demonic as the Jesus worshiped in Mormonism is so not Biblical. So in a way Satan did answer my prayer. I have no scripture references, just my own experience. This is how a Mormon experiences their "testimony for the truthfulness of the gospel".:idunno
I praise God He bought me out of that, and that again, maybe what you pastor was referring.:idunno

:yay Glad I actually made some sense when I was so darn sleepy. :aha

Common sense kind of stuff to me that satan would have all his demons/minions etc. all over the place so they could physically hear any of their follower's requests if spoken out loud or if they're possessed.

satan would pretty much have to answer the request if it were in his power to do so or he'd lose credibility pretty quick.

Good point with fortune tellers. Body language, facial expressions and things we tell them which we don't even realize we're telling them. Also, they have helpers who research clients, dig through trash etc. so they can appear to have powers they don't.

Would you ask him to explain further, and post what he says? I'd like to know what he meant.

The only thing that makes sense would be that satan answers prayers of devil worshipers.

I don't see how prayers of Christians could be answered by satan. If we pray according to God's will, then God answers the prayer in His perfect timing. If we ask God for something and it isn't His will, the answer is no, and we don't get what we ask for.

Obviously, satan tries to trip us up, tempt us to sin, etc., but I don't see how he could be answering prayers of Christians. :scratch

I pray to God, not satan.

I don't think satan can hear my prayers.

He can only do what God allows him to do.
