Thumbs up Variety Of Breakfast Food

We have Best Choice oatmeal with maple & brown sugar with either sausage links or bacon. Other days we switch off between scrambled eggs, and sausage or bacon. Also, French toast is great with sausage or bacon. There are many different kinds of cereal out there & you could cut up banana or some other kind of fruit. I also like cantaloupe. I know some people don't. We all have our likes & dislikes. It is good to have something in your stomach even if it is something light & simple. Love, Janice

For my favorite breakfast it's bacon done in the microwave, hot cocoa, crunchy light toast done in the oven, and coffee, black.

I can't eat porridge with milk and sugar, it just won't go down...so eat it with salt and butter. I know, I know, sounds a little senile, but I'm happy in my senility...

This is a breakfast drink high in protein without being staturated with carbs. The carbs it does have are the good ones.

The medium-chain fatty acids in the coconut milk will keep you going for a long time! The flax seed meal adds fiber and lots of other good things, but you could also add fiber in the form of "Benefiber" or some similar preparation, or skip it (though I think part of the reason the shake is so satisfying is the fiber).
    Ingredients:
    1/2 cup coconut milk
1 scoop low carb protein powder (I used "Designer Protein" for my calculations), vanilla or plain
1/3 cup frozen berries (I used strawberries for the analysis)
2 Tablespoons Flax Seed Meal (or see above)
1/2 - 1 cup water (less if you want it thicker)
Sweetener to taste (I like to use liquid forms of Splenda - no carbs (see below)
    Preparation:
Put everything in the blender and whiz it together.

Nutritional Information: Each serving has 11 grams effective carbohydrate plus 6 grams fiber, 24 grams protein, and 429 calories.

    Oh nevermind.

Grits taste like whatever you put in them. I have never really liked them with milk and sugar. I like it with butter, cheese, garlic and black pepper.

The best way to make oatmeal is with milk. Then, butter, brown sugar, and cream to top it off!

I know, I just took a perfectly healthy bowl of oats and added nothing but sugar and fat! Yup! And made it perfectly wonderful!!!!!!!

    Default Cranachan...

I prefer my oats in the form of Cranachan...

Cranachan is a traditionally Scottish dessert. Many Scots still use the name "crowdie cream" because, in the past, a soft Scottish cheese called crowdie was used in the place of cream.

Ingredients: (serves 2, unless you are Anddra)

    • Approx 10½oz raspberries (strawberries can also be used).
    • 10 floz/one cup double (heavy) cream.
    • 2 tablespoons good quality honey.
    • 2 tablespoons single malt whisky (preferably a Speyside malt).
    • 2-3 tablespoons of oatmeal.

    Method:

    1. Place the oatmeal in a cool, dry pan and turn on the heat to simmer. Stirring occasionally, toast the oatmeal until it is golden brown. This process could take between 10-20 minutes.
    2. Once the oatmeal is brown, turn off the heat and let it cool in the pan.
    3. Place the cream in a bowl and whisk up until soft and relatively thick.
    4. Add the honey and single malt whisky and fold it in with a whisk, until it is soft and creamy.
    5. Pick out some of the best raspberries for decoration and add three or four to the bottom of each serving glass, leaving a few for final decoration.
    6. Add the rest of the raspberries to the cream mixture and fold in carefully, breaking up a few of the raspberries to obtain a slight colouring to the cream.
    7. Spoon the mixture into the serving glasses, then add cream to the top to make an even base for the oatmeal.
    8. By now the oatmeal will be cooler. Using a teaspoon, evenly sprinkle the oatmeal over the dessert. Add a raspberry for the finishing touch and chill for about three hours, or overnight.

    Serving:

Cranachan can be served on its own, or with double cream and more raspberries (preferably). For an extra treat, make up the cream and add the raspberries as in 3, 4 and 6 above. Then freeze in a container for a yogurty fresh ice cream.

By the time I'm ready to eat, it's often mid morning and, if I eat too much, it interferes with supper. Now, I love pancakes and french toast and all kinds of sweet breakfast fare, but I know they aren't a healthy choice and I also usually feel better if I don't eat at all than if I eat that stuff. I'm not a big fan of eggs for breakfast either. In fact, I'd just as soon have a bowl of Cheerios for breakfast, but I get bored with that after a while too. So, I'm trying to find some breakfast foods that are healthy choices and aren't real heavy. I also prefer not to spend a lot of time on preparation and clean up. Any ideas?

I'm with you jadeeyes, I don't like breakfast either and I don't like eating when I first get up "which is usually early".

What works for me is eating a brunch type meal around 10:30 and 11:00 AM which usually consists of left overs from the night before.

You just gave me a good idea for oatmeal....toasting the oats before cooking. That must add a wonderfully nutty flavor!! Thanks, Anddra!

Leave it up to the Scottish to work Scotch into a Breakfast food.
