Post A Big Lie - Phoenix Preacher Blog - Warren/Laurie/Smith

I found this one right now off my Twitter page. The many posted comments on the article run the gamut between ridicule and a dismissive attitude, to once again, genuine and legitimate concern about whet went down at the 2009 Harvest Crusades. Check it out:

A Big Lie - Phoenix Preacher

I look forward to your evaluation.

Since the Crusade and registering here at Rapture Ready, I have learned the new term Online Discernment Ministry (ODM's), and that term most often used in a derogatory manner directed at anyone who filters (or questions), as the noble Bereans did, anything they are/were told through the prism of Biblical truth.

    Oh brother.

Salem, if this is from a blog, it isn't allowed to be posted here on RR. Wasn't sure if you were aware of that or not.

That said, I had seen this earlier and we have had many discussions about the Harvest Crusade in this forum. Why don't you go back and read the thread. You will see much truth in it.

I'm sorry that Salem isn't allowed to post the link to the blog. I would like to comment from the comments I read on there and have to say wow! How sad it is that so many people in the chuch are so against those who work in the apologetics ministry. I saw a particular hatred for Lighthouse Trails.

I agree, Musclecar. It was wonderful. The picture was sickening. These people who try to slander Online Discernment Ministries are full of pride. Just a quick check into their beliefs proves that LTR is spot on!

We've gone round and round with some people in the recent past who do nothing but like to protect the likes of those who are dishing up bad theology and outright heresy.

Rick Warren's fan club doesn't go away. They just grow more and more blind.
As I have stated before, if you haven't read A Wonderful Deception by Warren Smith I would get it right away. The second half of the book connects the dots of Peale, Schuller, New Age, Sweet, Warren, Eugene Peterson, and the various unbiblical views into an amazing web. It's boggles the mind. It is also extremely well researched and documented.

So, for those who wish to condemn the work of the online ministries, I suggest they do their own homework, check it with God's Word, and take their blinders OFF! Of course, that is, if they want the truth!

It is just really intriguing seeing the basically two different views on the scenario; how those who want to dismiss it are engaging in some pretty impressive linquistical gymnastics.

They are. They're pros at it. Look at Rick Warren himself. Does he not have a degree in scripture twisting. Goodness me, the way he used all of those questionable translations in the Purpose Drivel alone made it difficult to understand.

The bottom line is this: Rick Warren has some extremely strong New Age friends and beliefs. Period. Seriously, get a copy of that book of Warren Smith's. It will knock your socks off.

Back in March one of Rick Warren's apologists visited RR, stirring up quite a hornet's nest of activity. So, we've had personal experience with people who defend RW.

For those pastors, such as Laurie and Smith, to be uniting with RW, well, they are among a long line of formerly trustworthy teachers. What and whom do the people in their churches believe now? It all comes down to following the Word of God. Pastors and teachers come and go, but God is constant and neither He nor His Word ever changes.

We know we are living in the very last hours of the last days. We have been told in advance what to expect. It is here.

Do you sit in their churches? Do you listen to their teachings? Until you have, I would suggest you not speaking anything. ????? I listen to their teachings. I do not find anything in error with them. I would suggest you (by "you", I mean anyone getting all upset about LTR and CC) do your OWN research. Why not be a good berean when it comes to LTR????? Why accept what they say as pure truth? Do your own research. I have. Warren on the other hand is very in error.

I sense some true hostility here. How do you know that I haven't done my own homework, or discussed this with others who have?

No one here is condemning the teachings of Greg Laurie or Chuck Smith. That has never been the question. The problem is the perceived unity with Rick Warren. They are sending the wrong message. Calvary Chapels are now being faced with choices, as have other churches in the past. And it's a shame. I have always had nothing but respect for those pastors. But to buddy up with Rick Warren, yeah, I have a problem with that! It will end in poison.

As for LTR, you are free to believe what you wish. As am I.

This makes me crazy! RW showed up at Harvest 2009 and is a terribly messed up guy, doctrinally. Does that mean Greg and Chuck are going to become purpose drivel churches? Please, nobody is saying that.

Here is the problem, as I have said to anyone who will listen. Greg and Chuck lend credibility to saddlesore by sharing the stage with RW. That is the problem, plain and simple and it was a stupid move, period, and here is why. To the person who went onto the field, they could think RW is the same as Chuck and CC in general. If anyone thinks the devil will miss an opportunity to capitalize on this confusion is kidding themselves. That potential is pure poison, and clearly a terrible decision by Chuck, because of intended consequences.

News flash, I did not read this from LTR I simply used my "Discernment" to grasp the obvious. This is common sense 101.

Nicely put, OWL. Wish I could be so succinct!

    Exactly, ping.

We've been around ODMs for awhile now. The ones we read don't run smear campaigns. However, they are watchmen on the walls and give us the information as well as the links to said information.

These guys who oppose them want to cover their favorite people and whatever they teach. They show no interest in checking the scriptures to see if their theologies line up. Then they attack and want to silence anyone who opposes them.

I've never seen fleshly motives in any of these ministries. In fact, I've seen a great deal of godly sorrow. No one likes it!

As for CC. We have all been saddened by what seems to be occuring. It's not a blanket statement that all have gone down the tubes. My church in an SBC church. But mine is led by a pastor who is firmly holding to the Word. Yet, many of those are leaning in the other direction now.

So, it will be interesting to watch, and certainly we should pray for them.

Please....Short story... My Wife, Daughter, and GrandDaughter, traveled to San Diego over the weekend. Sometime in talking to her Daddy, He wondered if I believed in a young earth. Her folks are "Christian", and believe in evolution, and pick and choose what is relevant in the Bible. He couldn't understand that I could be so dense in believing this way. My point? We're all going to agree or disagree on many things. My heroe's that I have to put on a pedestal these days? Zilch! The only one Hero...Jesus, who's sitting right beside His Father is all I need. My Daddy In Law has gotten sooo many things wrong believing in messages given in churches long ago. He also has his idols at 81. Let's be good born again Christian's, and check up on all the hundreds of sites that agree totally with LHT. Why not ask any of the Mods here at RR. I fought hard not too long ago here...on something that didn't need my allegiance. I finally went back to the guy and told him that he was right, and he didn't have the foggiest of what I was saying. So take your passion and research all the researchers. Pm a mod. There's definitely a divided line up the middle of Churches today pushing man's agenda versus God's. Sooo, I wanted you to know that we can agree to disagree without being sooo passionate that we lose our arguement...because of our fervent passions.

You know His Bride, the thing that got to me the most I think was a comment I read from one of the posters who said that LHT was dividing the church over non-essential issues? Non-essential issues?! Since when did Rick Warren's teachings qualify as non-essentials? This guys is such a heretic, and yet those people could not see it. They COMPLETELY ignore the biblical command to contend for the faith. With churches in our country filled with people who think like this, is a wonder why Western churches are in so much trouble?!

I totally agree with you, His Bride. When solid bible teachers align themselves up with questionable bible teachers, they lose credibility.

I'll still listen to Chuck and Laurie until the day I hear them go emergent. Like OWL said, the mistake was made inviting them to he Crusade, but doesn't mean they're becoming purpose driven churches.
