Default No world ending in latest Mayan calendar find

    Friday, 11 May 2012

The earliest known Mayan calendar has been found in an ancient house in Guatemala and it offers no hint that the world's end is imminent, say researchers.

Rather, the painted room in the residential complex at Xultun was likely the place where the town scribe kept records, scrawling computations on the walls in an effort to find "harmony between sky events and sacred rituals," says the study in the journal Science.

The hieroglyphs date back to the ninth century, making them hundreds of years older than the calendars in the Maya Codices, which were recorded in bark-paper books from 1300 to 1521.

Some appear to be the 365-day solar calendar, the 584-day cycle of the planet Venus and the 780-day cycle of Mars, says archaeologist William Saturno of Boston University, who led the exploration and excavation.

According to Saturno, the writing looks like someone's attempt to sort out a very long math problem, as if on a blackboard.

"For the first time we get to see what may be actual records kept by a scribe, whose job was to be official record keeper of a Maya community," says Saturno.

    Different mid sets
"The ancient Maya predicted the world would continue, that 7000 years from now, things would be exactly like this," he adds.

"We keep looking for endings. The Maya were looking for a guarantee that nothing would change. It's an entirely different mindset."

Furthermore, there is no sign that the much-hyped myth that the Mayan calendar would end in 2012, and with it the world, has any bearing in reality.

All that ended in 2012 was one of its calendar cycles, says co-author Anthony Aveni, professor of astronomy and anthropology at Colgate University.

"It's like the odometer of a car, with the Maya calendar rolling over from the 120,000s to 130,000," says Aveni.

"The car gets a step closer to the junkyard as the numbers turn over; the Maya just start over," he adds.

"The most exciting point is that we now see that the Maya were making such computations hundreds of years - and in places other than books - before they recorded them in the Codices."

Even though the 31 square kilometre site of Xultun, deep in a rainforest where tens of thousands of people once lived, was first discovered about 100 years ago, the house structure where the calendar is drawn on the walls was spotted in 2010.

Researchers say careful excavations have revealed that the paintings inside - including some of human figures wearing feather head-dresses - show the first examples of Mayan art on a house interior.

"It's weird that the Xultun finds exist at all," says Saturno. "Such writings and artwork on walls don't preserve well in the Maya lowlands, especially in a house buried only a metre below the surface."

Strange how they suddenly find it in 2012; not that it matters; people will still cling to end time conspiracies, just like Y2K, we already know what happens cuz we have an authentic calendar (the scriptures)

Mayans were great astonomers...guess any civilization would be if they were 'high' on organic drugs. A strange cult as well; they believed caves were the 'underworld' to the bad side of their idol gods, not to mention blood-rituals to ward off the death of their empire. psst--it didn't work.

Default Something aweful this way comes...

The world today seems to have an innate knowing that something BIG and TERRIBLE is on its way. All the preoccupation with disasters and the end of the world as "we" know it.

    Ecclesiastes 3:11
    He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men;
yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

many ancient cultures believed that caves or at least some caves where the entrence to their underworld. I do wonder where the Mayans got all their blood-rituals from guessing that there was no trade or linkes between the Mayan and many ancient middle east cultures.

Trust someone to bump this thread.

Now I do not believe in the Mayan calendar hype, not in the way pop culture interprets it anyway. Some esoteric Mayan archaeologists believe that it may represent world transformation into a new age, which would fit in well with all the other new age teachings and with that, the coming of the anti-christ and the great deception.

I do find it peculiar that as this year is coming to a close, we are seeing not only continued global economic troubles and severe weather events amid other end-time signs, but escalating violence and war activity in the Middle East which is rapidly involving Israel!

I find this timely convergence of events quite eerie if anything, though I am completely at rest knowing that God is in control.

Well....one big internet rumor is the HAARP instigated earthquake on that date (12/21) on the west coast....I expect nothing to happen. Regardless, God is in control & we need to trust Him.

I think things will continue moving toward the end. I do have a question . If you have a magnet in the shape of a cylinder and then move another magnet down the side but not touching the other magnet. What happens when you get to the center? Does it flip.

    Doh!

French officials ban access to sacred mountain
which believers claim will be refuge from
    'Mayan apocalypse on December 21'

Fears the end of the Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world this coming December have run rife on the internet in recent years.

Less well known is the rumour that one particular mountain in south-west France will burst open on that day revealing an alien spaceship which will carry nearby humans to safety.

Well, if you were counting on that possibility to save you from the apocalypse, prepare to be disappointed. French officials have banned access to the Pic de Bugarach to avoid a rush of New Age fanatics, sightseers and, above all, journalists.

It's said that this mountain was the inspiration for Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth, and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I've read that Nostradamus said there were "positive vibrations" coming from the mountain.

    So sad. So very sad.

The date has been moved back from December 21st to December 31st.

I can testify to this because the calendar on my wall says the same. Its like the publishers knew this, they must be of Mayan descent...clearly. Smart people they are.

I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will put them on trial for what they did to my inheritance, my people Israel, because they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land.

The little calendar in my phone goes on and on and on .....I expect someday (hopefully soon) someone will find it lying around.

Come soon Lord Jesus - Take us Safely Home

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

    How can this be?

Does the world know of this information?

You have found the calendar of all calendars. Can it really be? Does one day truly lead to another apart from a calendar allowing it to be so?

I'm going to have to go back to my abacus and redo my calculations. This may take months or years!

I think we ought to give credit to the Mayans for the origination of a common supermarket staple. As previously mentioned, there were caves and drug use. If a Mayan wanted to go down into the caves to consult the future, he had to pay the guard, known as the "Hellman", in a whitish glue-like substance that formed under the leaves of the Lackamoxy plant. The cave guards eventually discovered the opiate had a dual use as a bread topping, thus the origin of Hellman's Mayannaise.
