Thread: Asteroid explosion over Indonesia raises fears about Earth's defences

Earth defenses? Good grief. We have no defense against Space Rocks hurling at Earth at a zillion miles per hour.
If one large enough hits us, we will never know what hit us. Just one big bang and we're history.

But let not your heart be troubled. Our God reigns and is still there.

'Scientist's' still can't get tomorrow's weather forcast correct; let alone worrying about defense against space debris.

They would stick to your hips for months if they hit us in the mouth. You know the old adage, "seconds on the lips - months on the hips" don't you?

OK folks, stop worrying about an asteroid causing the destruction of the earth. It won't happen at least until G_D is through with it. That means that even if an asteroid does totally destroy the earth it will have to be after the millenial reign and the final judgement at the very least.

Will we have signs in the heavens?? Absolutely, and this incident may be a part of this. We who are saved have nothing to worry about.
    I agree also Diana!

Not to get too off track, but the same thing God expressed to Sodom and Gomorra (sp). I'm even going on a limb to think about New Orleans (Katrina) with all the sinful nature there too.

Does Indonesia exhibit the same kind of lifestyles?

    Interesting to say the least.
I might be wrong but I've heard in the past that Christians and missionaries are very persecuted there.

Don't need any. Bible doesn't mention any big rocks does it ?
If anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also; and if anyone would sue you and take your coat, let him have your cloak as well; and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.

There are plenty of big rocks mentioned in the Bible, including Wormwood which turns the waters of the earth bitter and the other which plunges into the earth and releases the minions of Apollyon, you know the ones with wings of eagles, heads of lions with mens faces and tails like that of scorpions. Oh man am i glad we will be watching this from heaven!

And i do believe there are a few more that are mentioned in Revelation. I will have to check up on that again. If someone could post the verses referring to these that would be great. Its 3 am and i need to sleep

the Muslim nations are full of people that are turning to Christianity...record breaking numbers...if the truth were able to be told...MANY if not MOST ..must be kept secret. ..I believe that where conversions are coming in record amounts....that's where God is providing the signs.....using natural and un-natural signs ....Christianity's last frontier...so to speak.....You know, "fullness of the Gentiles"...

Any of these verses from Revelation could be possibly referring to meteor strikes:

I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as late figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. The sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. - Revelation 6:12-14

The first angel sounded his trumpet, and there came hail and fire mixed with blood, and it was hurled down upon the earth. A third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up. - Revelation 8:7

The second angel sounded his trumpet, and something like a huge mountain, all ablaze, was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea turned into blood, a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed. - Revelation 8:8-9

The third angel sounded his trumpet, and a great star, blazing like a torch, fell from the sky on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water— the name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters turned bitter, and many people died from the waters that had become bitter. - Revelation 8:10-11

From the sky huge hailstones of about a hundred pounds each fell upon men. And they cursed God on account of the plague of hail, because the plague was so terrible. - Revelation 16:21

Yes, there are plenty of verses in revelation that sound like possible, even probable, asteroid strikes. And there are plenty of secular scientists who are worried about the "really big one" hitting the earth and totally destroying it. But the bible says no such thing will happen, at least not directly. But if the eartn were to be totally destroyed then much of Rev, 20 & 21 could never happen.

But that does not mean that some major damage can't happen. Our pastor finished the series on Revelation today with a study of Rev. 20 and Rev. 21 and it looks like the destruction of the old earth mentioned in those chapters is referring more to the kind of destruction experienced in Noah's flood where everything on the earth was destroyed but the earth still remained intact as a planet. But Revelations 20 and 21 show it happening with fire and brimstone like cleaning house and then Jesus will restore the earth for eternity with a new Jeruselem coming down from the sky to sit on the restored earth. Then the "new" or restored earth would be where we spend eternity.

REV 8:12 The fourth angel sounded his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them turned dark. A third of the day was without light, and also a third of the night.
You have to wonder what strikes the sun and takes out a third of it's light. Then the moon and stars also follow suit with a third of their light being taken out.

We don't know what strikes them but it's not only the Earth that gets hit during the Tribulation. These Cosmic events will be unimaginable yet they happen. Scarey!

You have to understand that english words translated from the original Greek of the New Testament may not always mean exactly what was meant in the original language. The third of the moon, sun, and stars being struck could easily mean being struck from our skies and not struck directly. That would also make more sense when you read some of the other verses that deal with a darkening of the sun and moon, especially the one that says "dark as sackcloth" in reference to the sun and "red as blood" in reference to the moon because we have already seen just such a thing in the look of the harvest moon when it is low on the horizon and the sun when there is a lot of smoke in the air from something like a forest fire. The darkening of the sun as described in the bible would be a worldwide phenomenon possibly brought on by nuclear war, volcanic eruptions, an asteroid strike, or any similar natural or manmade disaster.

like being "struck dumb"... no physical hit was involved

i do wonder about the sun darkening by a third and moon turning red etc... how much of that will be flat out done by God (totally supernatural) and not actually a result of damage done on earth.
