Default How do we hand over our problems to God

and not pick them up again? I worry. God do I worry. Health problems, health concerns etc, etc... I cant't sleep right, I can't concentrate at work, I don't make any plans for the future as far as vacations, parties, dinners out because of the fear of not knowing what is around the corner. I worry if my husband or I get sick or lose our job who will take care of our mortgage, pets etc. I want to give it to God but how? I am weak and he is strong. How?

Worry. I'm very familiar with that feeling, myself. I personally have found that it is often a matter of giving them to God every single day.

Personally, I don't think that trusting in God for your needs and problems necessarily means that you will be able to act as though nothing is wrong, but those problems shouldn't dominate you.

One thing that really concerns me is that you seem to be worried about not only things that are currently messy, but about those that might or might not be at some time in the future. Too many "What if's" can be crippling. I learned that the hard way.

To that end, I only can say what Jesus said in Matthew 6:34, "Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."

2 Peter 3:3-4: Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, "Where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation."

People may be capable of being "nice", but without Christ, there is not an ounce of goodness in anyone.

    It is.
    Every day.

Earnestly pray for the humility to give it to Him.

Often times it is pride that gets in the way of ourselves letting our worries go.
Sometimes we think if we worry long enough, that will solve our problem. lol

Pray without ceasing, let Him know that you know you can't give it to Him yourself, that He must take it. Seriously, pray for that all the time.

HE WILL DO IT. I am proof.

eta: the reason He will do it is because that is in His will for us to only rely on Him.

Thank you both for your wise counsel. You seem to both have me pegged. I do worry about the what if's. It is crippling and I do feel that if I don't worry about something that it will get away from me and come to fruition.

Did you know that worry is a sin? Some may argue with me on that, but I believe it is. Especially in light of Prov. 3:5-6. But, with that knowledge, will it solve your problems? I struggle with worry too... And my 9 yr. old will be leaving next week on a trip out of state! And I don't want to put it even out there, but will I worry? Probably.

The sad truth is... is our bodies and minds are not ours. They belong to God. To use them in anyway that goes against Him or His knowledge, is sin. And the enemy will play that against you in a terrible way.

The only way out of the dark pit of worry and anxiety is being grounded firmly in the Word. Have it in your heart and in your mind. That means, memorization. Get some really good comfort verses inside yourself. So that you can speak it and sing it when you feel worry come on.

Don't cultivate thoughts that take you away from God! Or turn you away from His goodness! Rebuke them, turn from them, stand FIRM on the promises of God!

The last few chapters of Psalms are good to meditate on.

    Phillippians are good, chapter 4.

And the whole book of 2nd Peter.

When you use your body in a manner that shows your distrust in God, it's the same as stealing, really. We have no right to willfully distrust Him. He WILL guide us in all our ways, as long as we acknowledge HIM first.

Acknowlege Him in praise, prayer, and adoration.

I am praying for you!! I hope this can encourage you!!

    Joy,

Thank you. Your words are encouraging.

If worry is a sin, Father I ask you to forgive me.

I've been a worrier since I was a little girl. I'm 42 now. I can remember having nightmares about my parents deaths that would wake me in the middle of the night. So I worried about them until my Fathers death a few years back and I still worry about my mom, grandmother and she's 95), brothers etc.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear about your parents....

I have problems with anxiety myself. I have struggled with it for YEARS. The impending doom, the racing heart, the trouble breathing, the FEAR.

God tell us to not let our hearts be troubled, neither let it be afraid. When He tells us to trust Him, He means it! We are to take no thought for our very lives. It's a staggering thought!

Believe me, I stuggle with nightmares also as I am a very avid dreamer.... And it's all we can do: ask forgiveness.... He knows our hearts, He knows our weaknesses. And it is in our weakest moments that HE is strong! Take hold of that truth! Ask Him to use whatever means necessary to root out the distrust. He commands us as His children trust Him....

Romans 8:28 | And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

And that verse is rife with promises. If you love God, He WILL work all things together for our GOOD and if that means we can stand firm no matter how slippery the ground, that is a good thing!

I can relate to this thread. I am currently going through some 'unpleasantness' at work and I ask God to take these feelings of hurt and anger at the unfairness from me. I struggle with it, but on the other hand, God created me and knows my weakness...it's tough to hand it over and let go, but i try.

So very very true, Joy!Everyone experiences worry, everyone goes through heartaches, self-doubts, everyone loses loved ones. It is all part of the plan. Our Gracious and Oh So Very Wise Lord allows these things to refine us, including our tendency to worry. Yes, our Lord allows Satan to prick us over and over. He is Lord and governs ALL THINGS.
It is not the situation that is unique or event that happens to you that is important, for we all have our crosses to bear. It is not what we must face, but HOW we face them, that DEFINE who we are.
    So Finally Awake. . .

After all is said and done, All of us who belong TO HIM are better for them. Forged into what HE wants us to be.
Take this promise and hold on with all your might. I remind myself DAILY!

    finally awake,

I will pray for you that God will give you peace. He is ultimately the One Who takes care of us. Our Father God knows our needs and cares for and provides for them all.
Remember Satan wants us to be afraid and worry. If he can keep us focusing on our fears and worries of this life, then we are not considering how God takes care of us. Remember He is Our Hope!

Remember that God loves you and will not allow anything to happen to you that is not Father filtered. Trusting in Him pleases Him, when you don't it is sin. You need to know why you trust him and you need scriptures that reveal His love towards you.. A book that helped me alot with my anxieties over things was ''The Key'', How to Let Go and Let God, by Nancy Missler. Kingshighway.org. She is the wife of Chuck Missler. This is a little booklet that is $5.95 and its an easy read. There is a formula within the Scriptures that we need to put in place every day of our lives. Taking every thought captive that is not of Faith and bringing it to God, catching those thoughts before they become strongholds of the enemy. Very Biblical practice.. God bless you for sharing we all need to share these things within the body of Believers...

Thank you all for taking the time to comfort me. It means so much to me. I don't know where I would be if it wasn't for this forum. I pray daily for all on this board and I am usually a socially shy person so I don't post so much but the comfort and Love I recieve means the world to me. I just want you all to know that.

I needed to see this thread too! God has put everyone's words here for me today and I am so thankful. I've been worrying and fretting for several weeks about an issue with my daughter. I know I need to trust Him and I pray about it constantly, yet I still hang on to the situation instead of fixing my eyes on God and God alone.
Finally awake, I'll pray that you're able to give all your concerns to Him, as I am learning to do myself. Remember that He is able to do exceedingly abundantly more than we can ever ask or think.

praying for you, I was a worrier too once, my hope for you is that you start a practice of giving it to God, it just plain feels so good!!!!!!!!! I had to start that practice when something came up in my life that there was NO WAY I COULD HANDLE! I remember at the door of the room where they anesthetised me for removal of an orange sized brain tumor, I just said, "this ones in Your hands Lord, I have absolutely NO MEANS OF COPING ON MY OWN, IT ALL ENDS RIGHT HERE. I ended up with some disabilities after that 17 hour surgery, but guess what, God gave me MORE THAN I LOST, yes sometimes things get hard, but I know He didn't allow anymore than would work for my good, I clung to 2 Corinthians 4:17 and Isaiah 33:2. I love God's Word because it IS HIM

Worry is fear based and not of God.

Spiritual attacks of the worrying kind are most destructive. Rest in the Lord as best as you are able.

    Proverbs 1:33
But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

Come soon Lord Jesus - Take us Safely Home

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

I worry, too. Not on a daily basis, but more when we're facing a move or illness, or something serious. I would pray and seek God, but I still struggled with worrying because I was unable to honestly allow Him to take care of things.

What finally helped for me is to do this:
Write my prayer down. Whatever I pray about, write it down. You can journal; I use index cards and a decorated shoebox. Whatever it is, you are physically writing down your prayers. Once it is in the journal or the box, that is a physical reminder that you've prayed and given it to God. If you have start to worry about the same thing, you have to physically take it out of the box (or open the journal). Why? Because you haven't really trusted God with it.

The Prayer Box has helped me a lot, and I do sometimes go through there just to read my old prayers and realize that God has taken me through each one.

The box or journal itself is just an item, but it is a nice physical reminder of the fact that we're trusting God.

Yes, I know what you mean. One minute I am telling Jesus that I turn my life over to him and the next minute I am worrying about all my problems.
