not surprising. osteen is a willow creek association pastor

and willow creek association churches tend to be for the most part watered down christianity

I ought to know cause I have been in some WCA churches and it is in many cases dumbed down compared to others

KING: Isn't it hard when let's say it's Christmas time, Christianity's time. People are out of work, being foreclosed. Isn't the hope you're giving them kind of ethereal? What is it based on?

    J. OSTEEN: Well, I think it's based on the scripture that when you believe that's what allows God to work in your life. The opposite to me, Larry, is to say be down, be depressed, be bitter. All that does is not only make your life miserable, but it doesn't allow God to do great things. God works when we believe, when we have faith, when we get up each day and say, God, I don't have my job, but I believe you're going to open up something new in the days ahead.

I almost quit reading at this point...I think Joel really believes that he has the power over how God works or won't work..according to whether he allows it..

if you didn't know that he claimed to be a christian and you read this..a person would be wondering which god he was talking about..no mention of Jesus, no mention or quoting true scripture..

This is nothing but a self-help book with a bit of mystical, magic mixed in..the god he preaches is very similar to the witchcraft/wiccan people who believe in affirmation. they simply believe that by saying something repeatedly, you come to believe it and then the spirits will make it happen...about as New Age as it comes..

Joel and Rick Warren are interchangeable.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
    For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor;
no good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

    Psalm 84:10-11

Default Joel Osteen misses the mark ...

Joel doesn't seem to have political discernment skills.
Amen to that!! If he thinks Obama is "sincere", etc. he has NO discernment skills AT ALL, if you ask me!

I always notice several things about a Joel interview.

    1) You never hear the name of Jesus. They just say "God."

    2) No Scripture (or maybe throw in a "token" verse).

    3) His books all seem to have the word YOU in them ("Your Best Life Now" "It's YOUR Time", etc. He so obviously caters to people's egos and materialism in this way. He's all about teaching people to GET GOD'S FAVOR, rather than teaching repentance, self-examination and selflessness!!

...in other words, the exact OPPOSITE of what the Bible tells us!

Almost as bad as Osteen is OWL's attempts at humor. Tragic.

    Exactly.

Now Cherished, give OWL a break. He's only a bit out of practice. Maybe if he showed up more.......

Wow... wrong on so many levels.

$73 million per year PLUS book sales. And what does he DO with that money? "Buckets" of money?

He's made no bones about the fact that he doesn't know the Bible, isn't a theologian and can't quote scripture. I'm sorry, but I want my worship leader to know MORE than I do, and really teach me about God's Word.

His "prosperity gospel" message is all about the God in ME. And anything that goes wrong in my life -- must be because I didn't follow Osteen's 7 principles with enough faith.

It's just scary how many listen to him and hear nothing amiss.

    Throw in a little contemplative prayer...and whew...what a combo!

Is it possible that Joel and all of these others who preach about being weathy, living a good life etc. DO NOT realize that they are preaching a totally different gospel?

and are these "pastors" working for the Devil?

So I guess that just because a pastor is behind the pulpit quoting scripture, that does not make him a pastor right?
