I think I am going to have to disagree with you on that one. From what I understand, the financial burden will be passed onto the taxpayers. As someone who is currently paying back school loans (for quite a large amount), I don't think anyone should bail me out and pay for MY loans. When I signed the papers for these loans, I did so knowing that I was responsible for paying back every single cent, even if it meant I had to take on another job to do so. I realize that there are many people struggling to pay these loans. However, the government is struggling to pay THEIR loans and the American people don't need another burden thrown on them. In my opinion, Obama is only doing this in an attempt to win back favor with his base and, like many of his actions, the long term consequences are not being considered. He is only thinking of the short term political gains. Where is personal responsibility? My debt is MY burden. It is a consequence of poor decision making on my part and I am doing whatever I have to do to pay off my debts. No one made me use a credit card. No one made me take out student loans. I did it. Choices and consequences- that's what my dad always taught me.

I'm sorry to rant. I just look around me and see such a mentality of "I want...! I want...!!! Gimme...!!! Gimme!!! I deserve this! I deserve that!" Obama's recent actions (scratch that- ALL of his actions) and the demands of the OWS movement make me want to bang my head off the wall.

And just to be clear, I am not lumping you with those types of people. I just wanted to say that Obama's student loan plans are not the answer to anyone's problems and will more than likely create a new set of problems.

Boehner supposedly has his eye on it--but he's not doing anything.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said that he has "great concerns" that President Obama might be exceeding his constitutional authority in ordering his administration to adjust regulations surrounding "underwater" mortgages and student loans, saying, "this idea that you are just going to go around the Congress is ... almost laughable."

"I thought we were a nation of laws and that our country was governed by our Constitution," Boehner said Thursday on the "Laura Ingraham Show."

The Speaker went on to caution that Republicans in Congress were keeping "a very close eye on the administration to make sure they are following the law and following the Constitution."

Obama announced a series of programs this week that would enable those with mortgage or student loan debt to refinance to more favorable terms and repayment plans. The administration says such action was necessary after Republicans blocked the president's jobs plan proposal to stimulate the economy.

"We can't wait for Congress to do their job, so they won't act, I will. I told my administration, we're going to look every single day to see what we can do without Congress," Obama told students Wednesday at the University of Colorado-Denver.

Just what you described gave me a reason to think O will try to stop the election next year just so he can keep his position. He is totally ignoring our congress and constitution and amazes me no one is saying or doing anything about it.

1. My wife and I have a combined student loan debt of about $250,000. It's a mix of subsidized and unsubsidized Direct Loans, PLUS loans, Perkins loans, and Stafford loans.
2. The student loan change that I agree with is allowing me to consolidate my PLUS and Stafford loans, serviced by Sallie Mae, with my Direct Loans Now, instead of having to manage multiple loan accounts, I can manage one. Not only is this efficient for me, but it reduces administrative costs for the loan servicers. My loan principle total does not decrease. I'm still paying back the same amount. I also appreciate the 0.25% interest rate reduction being provided for consolidating, which is significant when looking at my debt load. The loan servicers will make up for the lost interest revenue through administrative account management savings.

As I understood/understand what O is doing is that he's using E.O. to get what the Congress (bipartisan) would have passed anyway, but not all added to the new stimulus package. He will gain political points this way, and (I fear)will continue to do this and will pass things that he otherwise could not get passed hoping few will notice until it's too late. He's sneaky that way, and if he doesn't think of a way to do it, Harry Reid and his cohorts will help him.

So I have to admit that my post came from my emotions. I'm glad that the new changes will help you and your wife with your loans.

No worries. I just wanted to clarify why I appreciate the student loan changes. I can understand your frustration. I'm seeing many similar posts by people I know on Facebook as well.

He is also politically savvy, because the congressional Rep's are busy shooting off each toe on each foot. They are often tone deaf when it comes to reelections. They must get more shrewd and agile, or Mr. Obama will beat them again, even while having an economy as bad as it is.

The electorate just doesn't care whether its an executive order or a congressional bill, they want action.

Doesn't impeachment have to be initiated by the Senate? I doubt Harry Reid would allow it. Unfortunately it needs to be done. He took an oath to uphold the Constitution, but he refuses to carry out the laws of the land. He usurps authority that isn't his and makes up his own rules. He ignores the will of the people.

I have a feeling that if we could look back in time, and see what was happening in Hitler's camp, we would see some similarities. I hope we are not watching a repeat performance here. But O seems to be finding the ways around the normal, and safe, way of doing things and instituting the "I'm going to do it my way, whether you like it or not, precedent."

Executive order has been going on since George Washington was in there, and that has been a long time ago.
