The Obama administration is apparently applying intense and unprecedented pressure on the Netanyahu government to make huge unilateral concessions to the Palestinians even before direct peace talks begin. Says an advisor who has been briefed on the talks: “President Obama is insisting that Israel sign a document that specifies Israel’s commitment to a peace deal with the Palestinians that will be based on 1967 lines. This means no building in Jerusalem, and a time table to address other core issues, like the ‘right of return.’” The source, one that I trust a great deal, also notes that President Obama spoke by phone in the last 24 hours with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown to make sure each of them are on board with pressuring the Israelis to make such unprecedented unilateral concessions.

I believe Obama is the first POTUS that is INSISTING that Israel sign such a document prior to even meeting with the Palestinians. That sure shows where his loyalities are when it comes to helping our strongest friend in the ME.Your right..He's going to take the whole country down with him..

It was a blatant attempt to show disrespect to Bibi and the Israeli government.

Spokesman Tommy Vietor says the White House continues to believe that Israeli building in Jerusalem is destructive to the Middle East peace process.

Building Jewish homes in Jerusalem cannot be destructive of the "peace process" because right now there is no "peace process" to be destroyed.

Not us, not us. We are taken care of by God, not this country. He cares for His own, like he cares for the baby birds in their nests and our babies in the womb...He is there. He is in control. Watch His wonders....I believe we are in front seat of an interesting ride, positive or negative....interesting and with a great ending.

I prayed so many times yesterday and again today for Netanyahu. He needs to know that we are behind him. He is a very brave man and I pray the Lord will use him in these end times.
I am fearful of what may happen in our country as this POTUS is taking us down a very dangerous road by pushing Israel. We must pray constantly and ask for our beloved USA's safety. With this meeting and Obama making these unbelievable demands on Israel then everything else this Administration is doing it's just too much to take. It's just like living in the Twilight Zone...actually worse as I liked Rod Serling.
Blessings and have a good rest tonite my RR friends (and lurkers )

I was raised in a Bible preaching, true to the Word Southern Baptist church. I don't think the Clintons represent the teachings of Southern Baptists at all. None of can know for sure, but I think it's very possible that the Clintons are CINOs (Christians in Name Only).

I just wrote a long letter the the Prime Minister to encourage him in the face of all this adversity.
I told him that there were millions of God fearing, moral people still alive & well in our Country despite what it looks like from the outside. God bless Israel...and give the leadership unwavering boldness in the face of evil! ....Amen !

I agree with everybody else. Wow. I fear Obama has just taken our country beyond the point of no return.

I had already basically figured out that secret meetings, no photo ops, and no news releases meant that Obama was up to no good, and I'm sure the rest of you had figured that out too.

Even though we have a disabled child, maybe I should just stop worrying so much about ObamaCare. We may not even be here long enough to see the consequences of it happen.

What is wrong with these people (current US administration)? I just read somewhere that Israel publicly announced another 20 housing units will go up in East Jerusalem. One wonders when Israel will tire of this and turn on Iran (as we expect them to do ultimately) with the thought "they (US, Germany, Britain) clearly need something else to worry about".

I've never been so worried about our country.

Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.

And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.

WASHINGTON - The meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Barack Obama at the White House on Tuesday did not resolve the differences of opinion on the future of the peace process with the Palestinians or Israeli construction in East Jerusalem. Netanyahu canceled a series of interviews and briefings with the American media, scheduled for Wednesday morning, in order to focus on the serious disagreements with the Obama administration.

The reason there were no statement after their meetings is because Obama didn't want Bibi watching him depend on the teleprompter to say anything. I'd hate to think Obama would drop the f-bomb like his prize VP did.

(Washington, D.C, 9:35pm eastern) — What in the world is going on behind the scenes of the Obama-Netanyahu meetings? Why are the talks so tense, and so shrouded in secrecy? Tonight, I have been able to gain some clues. It’s not good.

From the Jerusalem Post, it kinda looks like the Prime Minister of Israel drew up the "document" that Obama demanded....but the article does not specifically mention if building in Jerusalem will be halted, but reading in between the lines, it sounds like the Prime Minister agreed to it.

    Israel Pledges to Launch Talks

The Israeli team was working on a document to provide to the White House before Netanyahu’s planned departure on Wednesday night, later than originally expected, according to diplomatic officials in Jerusalem.

The document was “so far-reaching” that the prime minister and Barak needed to consult with the other five members of the inner cabinet known as the “septet,” according to one official, who noted that phone consultation with the ministers was expected before the document would be finalized.

The document is believed to consist of a series of Israeli commitments to the US outlining confidence-building measures toward the Palestinians and a willingness to deal with the core issues – settlements, Jerusalem, refugees and security – during the proximity talks. The assumption is that the US will then take this document to the Palestinians, and to the Arab League, which is meeting in Tripoli, Libya, this weekend, and say that this was what Israel has agreed upon in writing.

“The prime minister is making every effort to leave Washington on a positive note and bring an immediate renewal of peace talks with Palestinians to fruition,” an Israel official stressed.

Obama, Netanyahu Fail To Resolve Settlement Row
    Mar 24 08:48 AM US/Eastern

Talks between US President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu failed to produce signs they had ended a dispute which Netanyahu said could block the Middle East peace process for a year.

Sticking to a hardline position before the White House talks late Tuesday, Netanyahu said peace efforts would be held up by what he called "unreasonable" demands for a freeze on new settlers homes in east Jerusalem and the West Bank.

Default U.S.-Israeli Talks End Without Accord

    Updated March 25, 2010

American officials say last-minute talks between Netanyahu and U.S. Mideast peace envoy George Mitchell had not resolved tensions over Israeli construction in territory claimed by the Palestinians.

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. and Israel failed to heal their deepest dispute in decades as a two-day visit by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ended late Wednesday without resolving a rift over new Israeli housing planned in east Jerusalem.American officials said last-minute talks between Netanyahu and U.S. Mideast peace envoy George Mitchell had not ended tensions over Israeli construction in the part of Jerusalem that Palestinians want to be a capital of a separate state.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the closed-door talks were confidential.U.S. and Israeli officials told The Associated Press that the talks were aimed at getting Israeli-Palestinian peace talks back on track. Netanyahu had extended his stay by hours to work on a deal, but the talks ended at about 8 p.m. without any announcements, one official said.

The two sides had hoped to come up with mutually acceptable ideas to improve an atmosphere poisoned by announcements of the new Jewish housing projects. An Israeli official said Israel wants to see talks with the Palestinians resume quickly. The evening talks were intended to promote that goal, the official said.Netanyahu twice pushed back his departure from Washington after talks with President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton failed to reach consensus on what Israel could do to repair damage caused by the housing announcements.

During Netanyahu's frosty visit, "the U.S. made clear it is looking for steps to increase confidence and show commitment to the process," said Mark Toner, the deputy State Department spokesman.Earlier Wednesday, the Obama administration challenged Israel to explain yet another announced plan to expand Jewish housing in east Jerusalem, the same issue that soured U.S.-Israeli relations ahead of Netanyahu's three-day visit to Washington this week.

Palestinians claim east Jerusalem as the capital of a future independent state, and the United States sees continued Israeli building there as a provocation that makes peace negotiations harder.Netanyahu offered no concessions during his visit on an earlier plan to build 1,600 homes for Jews in the disputed part of the city. Netanyahu's government has refused to back off steady expansion of Jewish neighborhoods in the majority Arab city section.

An aide to Netanyahu said the prime minister was caught off guard by the announcement Wednesday that the Jerusalem municipality has approved 20 new apartments for Jews.Mitchell returned to the U.S. on Tuesday from talks with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas on the West Bank, apparently without agreement on when the Palestinians would be willing to open a new round of U.S.-mediated talks.

U.S. officials said discussions about the peace talks continue, and Mitchell plans to return to the region after the Jewish Passover holidays, which begin next week.In an exceptional step, no photographs of Netanyahu's meeting Tuesday with President Barack Obama at the White House were permitted, and neither side has provided a substantive account of the session.

Obama and Netanyahu initially conferred for about 90 minutes in the Oval Office, a half-hour longer than scheduled. After that meeting, Obama retired to the residence while Netanyahu stayed behind in the White House to consult with his staff in the Roosevelt Room, a White House official said.
Netanyahu then asked for a second meeting with Obama, who returned to the Oval Office for an additional 35 minutes of talks with the prime minister, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive diplomatic issue.Although they met for a total of two hours, the White House did not issue a formal statement on what was discussed in either meeting.

"I think it comes as a great shock to you and me, but not everything the president does is for the cameras and for the press," said Robert Gibbs, the White House spokesman.

Gibbs would say only that the discussions were "honest and straightforward" and that Obama had urged Netanyahu to take a series of steps to build confidence in Israel's ability to take part in peace talks with the Palestinians. He would not elaborate about those steps.

Default Minister Hershkowitz: 'We are not an American satellite; US pressure could boomerang'

Minister Shalom: US pressure could boomerang

Senior right-wing cabinet members reportedly urged Netanyahu not to fear confrontation with Obama over east Jerusalem construction. 'We are not an American satellite,' Minister Hershkowitz says. Shalom: One-sided US pressure won't help matters
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is making his way back to Israel after failing to reach an agreement with the White House that would advance the launching of so-called proximity talks with the Palestinians.

Meanwhile in Israel, Science and Technology Minister Daniel Hershkowitz said Netanyahu should be praised for insisting on Israel's interests with the US administration. "We are not a leftist government, and construction in Jerusalem is part of the consensus – it is the capital of the people of Israel," Hershkowitz said.

"We do not want to fight with our great friend, but our responsibility is towards the people of Israel. We are an independent state and not an American dependant. We must avoid a situation whereby we close down the Knesset and government, hand (US President Barack) Obama the keys and allow him to tell us what to do," he said.

"If the Americans will realize that the Israeli government has red lines - they will respect that," he said.

    Other ministers echoed Hershkowitz's call.

Sources close to right-wing cabinet members said that before Netanyahu left for Washington he was told to take a tough stance on Jewish construction in east Jerusalem even at the risk of a full-blown crisis.

According to one source, Netanyahu was told that Israel must make it clear to the US that the issue of Jerusalem is nonnegotiable.

"If the Americans insist, then they can break down the negotiations," one minister was quoted as saying.

Time will tell all i guess...., i'm kinda wondering here at this point..., how there can possibly be a whole lot of it left.? Bibi has stated implicitly that Jeruselem is off the table...and not up for negotiation. What part of that statement do the others not understand?
