    Default Let's keep a running tally...1950's vs. 2010!

Lets keep a running tally on the changes of the world just in the last 50+ years that signify the end times concerning morality, family, America, foreign affairs, Christianity...etc.

    I will start:

    TV:

In the 1950's on the show "I Love Lucy" Ricky and Lucy were not allowed to be seen in a double bed.

In 2010 strangers are seen in bed together, sometimes of the same sex, involving nudity, sexual verbal exchanges and frank sexual scenes.

    __________________________________________________ _________________

In the 1950's on the show "I Love Lucy" the word "pregnant was not allowed to be used".

In the 1960's, unwed pregnant girls were hidden.

In 2010, unwed pregnant girls get paid to have their own reality shows and parade around the high schools without shame.

    __________________________________________________ ___________________

In the 1950's show "I Love Lucy" a toilet was not allowed to be shown.

In 2010, people are shown on TV hanging onto toilets for dear life detoxing from drugs and this is considered entertainment!

    In the 1950's...

Teachers and schoolchildren celebrated CHRISTMAS with plays telling the story of Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus. (And the Wise men, Shepherds, sheep, etc) Christmas vacation was called CHRISTMAS Vacation!

    In 2010...

Teachers cannot display the word Christmas in their classrooms, and a production/play about the birth of our Lord Jesus would make national headlines, stating how many people were offended and emotionally traumatized by the mere thought of memorializing Jesus' birth. Christmas vacation is now called Winter Break.

PS: I know some places still allow the word Christmas used; the town I live in is one such place!

Hum, well as per my Mom growing up in the 50's, my granddad went to work and my grandmother stayed home with the 6 of them. She cleaned, cooked, etc... and they sat and had dinner together. They got to go over to another relatives house sometimes to watch TV (they did not have one). They were a real family that did things together, though it was mostly chores and raising crops....but they did a lot of outdoors stuff. They went to church as a family and prayed together. They had little but was very rich, grounded, blessed!

Today, Moms work, and are single parents, dads are absent, kids live in daycare, dinner is McDonald's, entertainment is video games and I-pods, or being at someone else house, church is not attended and siblings don't have to share much. Drugs and alcohol is out in the open, and some parents are so young they do that stuff with their kids. Our youth has been destroyed in just a few decades.....I can't imagine a few more from now.....

A friend and I were just having a conversation last night about the difference between our parents raising us and now how our kids are raised.

I was born in 1961; she was born in 1958. I had 8 brothers and sisters, lived on a farm, worked hard together as a family; was a rarity to watch that little black and white t.v. Disney on Sunday nights.

Divorce was rather taboo. We tried to remember if there were any kids of divorce in our age group. We couldn't remember one (although I am sure there may have been a couple).

We ate dinner as a family (no t.v. on). There were 11 of us and it was home cooked. If you did not like what was being served, too bad. You could not go and make yourself something separate from what mom had made.

We dared not to EVER cross my mom as dad would be informed and he stuck up for her.

In this day, my friend and I are both divorced; her 3 times to my one (mine abusive husband). We are raising our kids in single parent households. Our children have every phone, Ipod, laptop, etc. (my kid's dad buys them those as I can't afford it). I don't even have a laptop nor a cellphone.

Most everything on tv is awful. Our kids have been desensitized to all of the gore and sexual stuff they see. The commercials are just as bad.

When I first worked in law firms 30 years ago, we had manual (selectric) typewriters. Now, you can watch men (Israeli force) go down a rope in another country far away and see and hear what is going on. Unbelievable...........

Could go on and on here.

ME TOO! 28 yrs ago I worked in law firms as secretary. remember us having the old typewriter. If you made a mistake on any legal forms...oh well, start all over again! It was a pain, especially when you had to type the plot numbers for the property. It was a paragraph long of hundreds of numbers We would have to read it back to another secretary while she looked at the original description. There was NO computer. We had to do everything by phone or mail. It took a week or more for things to process. Now...it is INSTANT! totally amazing! And, the pay is a lot more per hour now and they have it EASY compared to our stone age.

I remember in 9th grade we had the really OLD typewriters that were'nt electric and you had to press the keys hard for it to imprint on the paper. Then in high school...we felt "lucky" if we were able to use the NEW ELECTRIC typewriter. We had to take turns. What a difference in technology from the standard old typewriter to a laptop that you can correct and print with a touch of a key.

This is my fav alltime thread! This brings back a lot of memories! Yes, we could go on and on about how things are different and I was born in '63. Night and day differences now. I feel for the kids in todays life and the adults that are dating or trying to find a Godly mate. My son had to go on the online dating service to find a Christian girl because there were none in our area his age of 25. and, she live 2 hrs away! they're engaged to be married this December...if we're still here.

I remember doing that, I was six and in kindergarten, we were allowed to bring our dolls, I brought Tenderlove, I was playing in the Christmas play, All dressed up as one of the women in those days, we sang O little town of bethlaham, and Jesus Loves us... I still have vivid memories of that play.
Their was a manger, and a baby Jesus, Joseph and the three wise men.
I'll add one, women were MODEST in those days. Men were men, and women were woman.
Men weren't trying to be women and well women didn't want to be men.

My parent's were the oddball though, one born in 1921, and the other 1931, they were both married twice and divorced twice. As we grew up, we understand about divorce, but all four of us kids today, have one marriage and no divorcies. amen for that...

I wished I lived back then instead of now, I would take living that way over tech any day. 1930 or 1940's. Their lives were hard but simple. Spending time with family, the important thing's matter then.

They were about God, the Bible, and family!

In the 1950's you never heard any curse words on TV or at the movies, perhaps with the very seldom 'd**n' (ryhmes with ham)

In the 2010s they have to bleep out almost every other word

In the 1950s violent felons were quickly dealt with

In the 2010s violent felons have celebrity status

In the 1950s the police officer was a person to be respected

In the 2010s the police officer is a person to be dis-respected

In the 1950s The Lord was treated with the utmost reverence

In the 2010s The Lord is somebody to be mocked

In the 1950s school-yard fights were fought with hands

In the 2010s school-yard fights are fought with guns

In the 1950s people were expected to work for a living

In the 2010s people expect the Govt to provide a living

In the 1950s Capitalism and Free Enterprise were celebrated

In the 2010s Capitalism and Free Enterprised are villanized

In the 1950s Immigrants wanted to be more like Americans

In the 2010s Immigrants want Americans to become more like them

In the 1950s Israel was to be protected and defended

In the 2010s Israel is to be blown off the map

    In the 60's,
we rode our bike everywhere - at night.
If a kid lipped of...POW and then he was drug to his parents...
Boy Scouts got their Toten Chit and carried hatchets....
We played army and had tommy guns... and the Japs, Germans, Indians, bandits ALWAYS LOST.
To be called girly or (slang-gay) was the worst insult
A kid needed a glove, baseball (or nerf football), whiffle ball set, bike and a few Hot Wheels. If you really worked hard and saved your lawn mowing money you might buy a set of Walkie-Talkies.

To receive a .22 was next to getting a drivers license.
If they sent you to the Shop Teacher it was not going to be pretty, and then your dad shows up....
Most trees in our neighborhood were defoliated up to 8 feet. Switches were cheeper than wiffle ball bats.
Military School was a real threat.
Everybody's mom was everybody's mom. You get hurt - she bandaged, need cookies - got milk, did wrong.... they all knew.
    Somebody had family in Vietnam.
Drag-racing, space ships, and chrome jets were absolutely COOL!
Sisters were girls and girls had cooties. Anyone who thought otherwise - shut up.
5th grade teacher crushes were ok, telling anyone other than your best buddy was not.
Kickball -whiffle tag was always in the street.

In the 1950's, problems in public school's were....
Running in the halls, chewing gum in class, missing the waste paper basket, talking in class
Today, problems in public school's are.........
Guns in schools, teen pregnancy, drug abuse, alcoholism, rape
In the 1950s, time was spent with family,
Today, time is spent with the television.
In the 1950s tv shows would preach that sex before marriage was unacceptable and that violence should be avoided at all costs
Today, television shows, like the Real World, show strangers being promiscuous, drinking, and getting into fights, blatantly glamorizing promiscuous sex and make violence commonplace, lessening the severity of each act and making it almost acceptable.

Think Ill stop now.....feeling a bit sad and sick all at once

1950 homosexuals stayed quiet about their choice of partners.
2010 homosexuals are very public about their homosexuality and having gay parades everywhere.
1950 If you wanted to call home and were at the store you had to use a coin op phone.
2010 You whip out your cell phone and call home.

In the 1950s you had to keep quiet if you were not a Christian
In the 2010s you have to keep quiet if you are a Christian

Somehow I don't think we've changed much, by 17 bodys change, feelings change, relationships change. We just deal with everything in a much different way.

The restraints are gone. No fear of God, no fear of man.
And the worldly wise men - and women just decide to teach the younger .... so to better prepare them...

More likely to prep them for harvest.

I talk with Boy Scouts, students, kids at church. Alot of the problems are the same. Maybe be there are better ways to deal with issues in the 2000's as opposed to the 40's and 50's, but they are all but wiped out by the problems caused by dealing with things in a godless environment.

No one seems to care, it's someone else's fault, we're entitled.

Even Christians. We're entitled to forgiveness. Really? Then what becomes of Grace and Mercy?
What should our real response be?
How many of us consider safety and status quo, ahead of speaking up for the Truth of God's word?

We are an incredibly blessed nation. But there is a price for Freedom.
    Integrety, Humility, Obedience.
I'm not waiving some flag, I struggle like every christian, the foes may be different, but sin has many forms, even Complacency.

I wish most heartily to commend Those who work studioulsy to maintain this site, Posters who search God's Word and share what they have learned, Others who brave the waters and ask questions.

In the 50s we didn't have a TV.

Now, I won't have one in the house.

Hang on in there, pray for your family and friends, use wisdom when talking to others about Jesus, and try to stay out of jail. It won't be too long now (September?)

THEN: TV and everyone in the family watched it for a limited amount of time
Today: Everyone has a TV in their own room (I know people with 7 or more televisions!)

Then: You did not disrespect people around you with your mouth
Today: You can hear just about anything as you are walking down the street.

Then: You stood for the pledge and anthem
Now: You see people on a phone, sitting, not removing hats, etc.

Then: You spoke to the sales clerk at the store while they checked you out
Today: You ignore them while you chat on your cell or finish your text message
