Russia: Iran close to nuke capability

Medvedev statement comes after Teheran-Moscow spat on UN sanctions.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Monday that Iran was approaching the point at which it would be able to make nuclear weapons, Reuters reported.

During a meeting of international ambassadors in Moscow, Medvedev said "Iran is moving closer to possessing the potential which in principle could be used for the creation of nuclear weapons."

The statement was a rare public admission by the Kremlin that Iran may have the intention of building a nuclear weapon. Reuters said the statement came after an argument with Iran over Russia's support of sanctions against Iran.

Though the US and the EU suspect Iran is attempting to build nuclear weapons, Iran says its nuclear program is peaceful.

While I usually don't give much credence to anything Russia says, in this case I believe them over the so-called "experts" who say Iran is still 1 1/2 to 2 yrs. away from a nuclear weapon.

Either that, or they're baiting the US and Israel. Interesting that we just 'traded' spies with Russia and they're calling for an alliance with the US and EU now too. They're up to something.
