Bible Light - "I want to get more of those Bibles you hand out"

Something fun happened today I'd share.

Who doesn't know I hand out Bibles? Sometimes on the corner, sometimes in bags of candy, but I'm always handing them out.

I like to hand them out in bags of candy to my professional drivers. The Christians always re-distribute them.

Today I was having a bad day (long story) - just completely devoured by a bad depression. The ONLY thing that got me out of the house was my $10 off coupon. I went to the Christian bookstore; it took 2 buses to get there. The coupon expired tomorrow.

I got there and proudly waved my coupon. "Heather" they told me gently "That's NEXT week." OK, I had a punch card and there's a bunch of "Invitation" New Testaments. Might as well get some.

Then I went to Starbucks and headed home. My second bus home, the driver was very excited to hear me. "I've been praying I'd meet you again! I want to buy those Bibles you hand out, please tell me where you get them!" I told him, and tore the top off my receipt so he has the address and phone number. All the way home he praised the Bibles, how wonderful and portable, how easy to read... now he can get a couple dozen to hand out himself!

Now I know why I left the house today!

" I have had an increasing burden to engage in some down and dirty, street evangelism." March 6, 2010

Isaiah 6:8 I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “ Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?”

Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”

    Matthew 22:9 NIV
'So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’

Awesome Hon!! Your ministries won't go unblessed, either to you or your recipients of your bibles.

I never read it, but liked the title "Becoming a contagious Christian".

God takes good care of me. Today, I found 5 pounds of ground beef, almost at sell by - $1 a pound! That's 2 weeks of eatin! I came home, cooked, and froze it all before heading out.

I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name. Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come upon the whole world to test those who live on the earth. (Rev. 3:8,10)

So what bibles are you handing out?

Whatever I can get my hands on!

I am very fond of "The Invitation" HCSB New Testaments, they are only 50 cents each. Lifeway has punchcards, coupons, etc, to make my dollars stretch.

I also hand out a lot of NKJV paperbacks, and I was given half a case of some lovely NIV's. My aunt & uncle bought me a case of Reina Valera Spanish New Testaments, I hand those out as well.

I handed out NIRV Kiddie New Testaments for Halloween.

I plan to do a street corner handout (I call them Big Bible Handouts - see photo) on Thanksgiving. I have about 100 Invitations; it should be fun.

Many adults like to ask for Bibles, for their kids. I see a great desire to spiritually nourish their children.

If they indicate they want a Bible, I ask "How many?", hand them over, and then let them know I'll be praying for them. I personally really enjoy the HCSB so I feel great about handing them out.

I get plenty of attacks, too!

    Since the handout:
    Ron's neuropathy got worse
We got 3 very scary certified letters.
    Something else I'm forgetting.

That's the nice thing about being me. Memory issues ensure I forget whatever's bugging me.

Anyway, the attacks keep me leaning on Jesus and giving Him the glory, as it should be. The second I think *I* can do ANY of this, I'm useless to the Kingdom.

I'm the tool God uses. With my life, I could care less what people think, if they laugh or stare. I'll do whatever He tells me to do and thank Him for the chance!

    Always and ever, Luke 17:10

[I do have another handout planned for Christmas, if not sooner]

    Pray on it daily.
Get into the Bible on a daily basis.
Ask God for the grace to love your enemies, and truly do pray for those who have hurt you. Ask Him to show your hidden faults, and help you work on them. Pray for all the unreached, that God can use you to reach at least a few of them. Ask Him to keep the Bad Guys away, and to please send you hungry souls who need His Word.

    And boy does He answer!

Be very sensitive to Holy Spirit guidance. Remember, the Bible is the Word of God, and a very powerful weapon. I have disregarded promptings in the past and really had some horrible reactions.

Often, he will prompt us to give Bibles to those you wouldn't think likely - during my last handout, a guy covered in gang tattoos; and sometimes He says no to someone who seems very nice and open to getting a Bible. LISTEN!

After the fact, I went "Now I see why You said no!" In one case, I felt physically threatened.

where do you find bibles for .50 each? I want to do this too! I will have to pray for boldness, how do you do it? just walk up to someone and ask them if they want a Bible?

To answer the first question, Lifeway Christian or here: http://www.holmanbibleoutreach.org/products.asp

To answer the second, first pray on it, ask God to send you hungry people. Listen to the Holy Spirit prompting; I am very drawn to certain people.

    I distribute 3 ways:
    1. Put them out in the "book exchange" at work. Very easy, and low key. It took them about a year to figure out it was me.

    2. Put one in a baggie with a nice handful of tasty candy, hand them out (probably the most handed out this way, several a day right now).

    3. I stand out on the corner with the Free Bibles sign, hand them out to anyone who rolls down a window; I only ask "How many?" and tell them I'm praying for them.

People really love the Bible in with the candy. I seldom get an attitude handing them out like that. But I always pray for God to make me bold, and draw me to the right people, drawing them to me, as well.

Sometimes a person just walks up to me, and stands there. I give them a Bible and they leave.
