    Default Remnant of Israel? Covenant?

    Hello:

    Honest question here.

The Covenant with Israel...what about people who are part Jewish? Do they fall in with the Covenant? Are they considered Jewish and/or the Remnant of Israel by God?

btw..........any child born of a Jewish woman is considered Jewish. So, I would guess if someone is half-Jewish........and their mother is Jewish.........they would be included in the covenant.

kmendel, I have read this as well, that the Jewish line follows more after the Mother's line than the Father's. Just my 2c worth.

We just read a lot of the covenant verses in women's Bible study last semester. The covenant was thru Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the paternal line though...not the maternal.

Maybe these verses will help, if I've copied them all down correctly. There was a mention of Sarah being the mother of nations and kings so she might be part of the covenant too. I thought paternal because circumcision comes thru the paternal line though? Ezekiel 48 describes the division of land based upon each tribe's name who were the sons of Jacob.

I know Jewish tradition says being Jewish is thru the maternal line.

    Some Abraham covenant verses:
    Genesis 12:1-3
    Genesis 13:16
    Genesis 15:4
    Genesis 17:2-6
    Genesis 15:8-21
    Genesis 22
    Genesis 17:10-14
    Genesis 17:7,13,19

    Sarah
    Genesis 17:15-16, 17:19-22

    Isaac
    Genesis 26:3-5

    Jacob
    Genesis 28:13-15, 35:9-13

A Messianic Jewish woman at church recently told me it was thru the mother as well. I'll have to share those verses with her.
Jesus is coming now at "Any Moment"! Are you ready?

Romans 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Praying for the Peace of Jerusalem. Amen.

Thanks everyone for their responses! So, I guess I'm a kinda sorta Messianic Jew Gentile (a mutt like most other Americans!)

All that matters is the Messianic part, I'm born again and proud and thankful for it!

Just wondered if my watered down Jewish heritage counted with the Covenant, etc. I'm just happy to be saved.

do any of you think it's a possibility that any of us are of Israel and do not know yet......but may find out. Or do you all think that it all would've been revealed by now.

Genetics doesn't matter in this dispensation though. As the Church, we are already grafted in and are the spiritual descendants of Abraham. We already have an inheritance by grace. Galatians 3:29

Really it is going to come down to DNA during the tribulation. Genetics can trace from your father's, father's, father to at least 2000 years and from your mother's, mother's, mother. Yes, I do think genetics has found Israel is or very close, which is why we need to be spreading the gospel. Ezekiel 34:6

Just a question - Jesus was a Jew completely through Mary, so wouldn't the Jewish line be maternal?

Wasn't Jesus thru King David's line though? Here are the verses that list out Jesus' genealogy. Matthew 1:1-17, Luke 3:23-38. Also, it was God's merciful grace that grafted in Tamar, Ruth and Rahab, three non-Jewish women, into the Messianic line as well.

Sometimes there is a difference of what tradition says vs. what the Bible says. Somehow along the line, it looks like Jewish tradition changed from paternal to the maternal.

Let me give you a very clear cut example that might help. Scientists have found the descendants of Aaron, Moses' brother, thru DNA. It was only thru the yDNA (paternal DNA) that genetics found them, not thru the maternal DNA, mtDNA. Women never get this yDNA (paternal DNA) but men do get the maternal DNA.
Men = XY Women = XX.

Background: Although membership in the Jewish community has, since at least the second century CE, been passed maternally, tribal identity, and membership in the group that originally comprised the Jewish priesthood (Cohen or Kohen; plural: Cohanim or Kohanim), has been patrilineal.

    Default my thought.

...only the mother's blood, passes thru the child in the womb...
Chris as the SON OF GOD....would not possess the "blood" of GOD...
    as God is SPIRIT..RIGHT??

    the human-ness of JESUS...was his mother's contribution...
    the GODliness ..from HIS FATHER...

    life=in the blood..

but to satisfy the Jews....Jesus earthly father and mother...could both trace their lineage to King David...i think...

Yep, that is the way I understand it too, both Joseph and Mary were descendants of King David. Also, Mary's genealogy skipped Solomon's line, if I'm remembering correctly.

We are told it would be the seed of a woman that would crush the serpent's head too. Genesis 3:15

From the verses in the Bible though, I just see a clear difference between Jewish tradition and the Bible. Also, yDNA is how you can trace the genetics of each tribe from Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Jacob's 12 sons. A little known secret too is genetics is tracing the descendants of King David right now thru the Davidic Dynasty. How cool is that! It looks like they are gathering both yDNA (paternal) and mtDNA (maternal) so we'll see what becomes of it.
