Last week when I filled up my car I paid $3.29/gallon. Today filled up hubby's car at the same station and it's shot up .16 to $3.45/gallon in a week. I know some of the economists are saying gas could be $5 a gallon by 2012, as fast as prices are jumping it may get there before the end of summer if someone doesn't do something. We all know no matter what's happening in the world that around Memorial Day gas prices jump for the summer and then go up again just for good measure Labor Day weekend too. I don't even want to think what the prices will be by then. I have a feeling there are going to be a lot of "at home" vacations for people this year. I know that's where we'll be spending ours.

3.47 here on Sunday. I dread to see what it is today since I need to get some. I saw this morning that oil went up over 105 per barrel when the market closed in China yesterday. Wonder what will happen here today?

Glad my job and everything I could ever need is within easy walking distance. I feel for people who have to commute in larger cities or drive long distances.

We can thank environmentalist new agers for alot of this. We should have been drilling and refining oil in the US (Anwar, Texas, etc...) decades ago.

Wait until hurricane season starts and a storm is in the Gulf. That will kick gas prices up. Especially if a hurricane makes landfall along the coast.

Those exhorting OPEC to boost output should be careful what they wish for. The cartel card can be played once only, and it risks exposing the fragility of the global energy system if the Gulf powers are seen struggling to deliver.
Things just seem to be getting worse and worse, but remember to look up!

The economy has been bailing out slothful people for years. The bailout didn't just start last 2 years we have been bailing out undeserving people for years. I wished I owned horses.

You know the the old saying about teaching a man to fish, it ought to be mandatory every welfare moocher have a garden, ride a horse and buggy, however: send a transport van from DSS to take to appt, learn to fish and hunt to eat. Rising oil prices is only one issue multiple issues starting with freeloaders. I know I see it everyday when I go to work people stealing from workers in America. There are very few and far in between people who actually deserve to be supported with assistance and I believe that is your senior citizens. The physically disabled, not mentally they need jobs to feel self worth and accomplishment and to learn to function in real life if not put them somewhere's that they can learn life skills.
I am disabled and VERY offended by your post. I drive a 17 year old car, I barely am able to survive and I'm definitely not mooching. Most people who are on foodstamps need them. Would you rather people starve? Your post is very harsh and I cannot believe a Christian would have the attitude that people like me should be put in camps.

My husband has a disability that he has lived with all his life and, in spite of the pain and disability, he managed to work for decades. It finally became too much and he worked his last day almost exactly a year ago. He has at least one life threatening condition to add on top of the nerve disease he was born with and the arthritis that has developed as a result of the disease. On top of that, the meds he had to take to save his life damaged his pancreas and caused him to become diabetic. He turns 60 this summer but his body seems much older due to all these health problems that he couldn't prevent. Turns out that a couple of the diseases he has, including the nerve disease, are hereditary. So, we have a daughter who works as hard as she can, but has some serious limitations. Yes, there are people of all ages on welfare who are moochers who could and should be working. However, there are any people who desparately need assistance in order to survive and to provide for their families. If you were to see my husband, you might have absolutely no idea how much he suffers and what a hard worker he always has been. The same goes for our daughter. I thank God that we have almost no debt left. What was fortunate for is is that my husband managed to put in long hours for decades, in spite of pain, fatigue and other problems and, as a result, he made some decent money and we paid down debt and never acquired the kind of debt most of our peers acquired. One of the reasons my husband had to stop working is that, because he started falling more frequently, having him working in a power plant was very dangerous for him and those he worked with and he became a liability for his employer. Another reason is that he was becoming less and less able to do his work. He has a bunch of Doctors who wanted him to quit working years ago.

I agree! I am EXTREMLY offended by that post as well. One thing women with children should not HAVE to work. We are mothers and want to raise OUR children! I hate the femminist movement more and more. If it wasn't for them women could acctually afford to stay at home and children would be much better behaved! Two: mental disabilities are just as severe as physical disablities, if not worse. Three: do you even know how much day care costs and the price of gas? Why work if all you are earning is going to day care and gas? I had a part time job since 3 of my 4 kids are in school. Well DH ended up having to pay for me to work because gas went up and I even bought a small car 5 speed manual trans car to drive to work I turned in my notice and will not be returning after the 18th. Pretty soon DH is going to have to quit working as well because of the gas prices. Why go to work to make $300 and spend $400 in gas? Pretty soon people who are smart enough to figure it out will have to stop working. Things are going to get bad. Esp with the earthquake and tsunami plus the Saudi police firing on protesters. Gas is going to go up some more today. There is not a thing on this planet that is not an oil product at some point. Prices on everything is going to go up. Oh and for those Europeans who say well we pay $9+ a gal most of that is ya'lls taxes and if our gas goes up here to $5 a gal Ya'lls will go up to $20 a gal...That's socialism for you.

Also, I have to say that there are people who ruin welfare for others, esp those that are not citizens. Cut them off and they would leave and free up so much tax payer money.

Oh yeah I forgot to say that yes I drive a big ol SUV as well, because I have 4 kids and need the room and I can't drive a minivan because I would never get it out of my driveway in the winter or heavy rain. I have a small car that I drive when it is just me an one kid or two kids, if the weather permits. My SUV is old and paid for. It is acctually in the body shop because I was recently involved in a hit and run, thankfully I was in it and not my small car or me and my kids would probably not be here. I am fighting the insurance company to fix it and not total it out because it is a collectors item and super hard to find. We drove all the way from Northern Missouri to Galveston, TX to buy it. Any ways, yes we have medicare for the kids because our youngest son has cranio synostosis and our health insurance that we have through DH's work doesn't cover all that he has to go through. No we are not on food stamps because the kids were left money from their grandmother in a trust for college and since Todd is the executor of that trust they count that as assets for us even though we are not allowed to touch it for any reason and they kids can't have it till they are 26. So when DH has to quit working for gas prices I am not sure what we will do to feed our family or heat the house or have water. Let alone get them off to school. But I am sure you will have all the answers right so please tell me....We live in the middle of no where and the only place to work is where DH works now and it doesn't pay enough. The cloesest city to us is a 2 hour drive away without traffic so if we were to work there we would need a huge paycheck. We can't sell our house cause who is going to buy it and besides where would we go? We left California because of gas prices and DH made $100k a year there, but there is no work and the guys he worked with out there haven't worked in 5 years. There are no jobs here for him to do that kind of work out here, so he is stuck working where he is now and like I said gas goes up much more and he wont be able to do that either.

I couldn't agree more. I believe that Jesus will look at people with attitudes like this and say, "Depart from me."

I think queengina66 is taking a bit of a bum wrap here. I have reread her post a couple of times and come to the conclusion she is simply addressing her frustration with all the fraud and abuse she sees in the welfare system. She does stipulate the need for some who are disabled and the aged.

There are certainly legitimate needs out there. Most people would not dispute that. I also think families and the church should be the first responders for those needs and the government should be the last resort.

To question someone's salvation because of this one post is far worse "judgment" IMHO.

As for the OP's concern....$3.59 last night and $71.42 to fill up...ouch!
