    No pincushions here.

Acupuncture usually comes with a lot of baggage - Dao, ying and yang, chi, etc,, and the accompanying Buddhist and Tsaoist belief systems.

As long as the practioner doesn't push other weird stuff, I see nothing wrong with it. I used it during both my pregnancies to manage the morning sickness and to help labor progress during the last pregnancy when I'd been having contractions for 2 weeks solid. A friend of our family is a strong Christian and naturopath - it is one of the modalities he practices.

I always wanted to get my husband some acupuncture after his stroke.

What I read is pretty promising. He wasn't interested.

The Blood Center forbids donations if you've had acupuncture - there's a waiting period.

I think it is a lot safer than many treatments out on the market. It really depends on the practicioner (misspelled).

Many, many devout Christians from Asia. To my way of thinking you ought to be able to find a born again acupuncturist if you look.

I would stay away from it.

I had acupuncture weekly when I lived in Asia. I know the roots are occult, but I don't know if the practitioners I went to were occultists. The offices in Japan looked like an American chiropractor's. Bland and business-like. The place I went to for therapeutic massage in China was a spa. It could have been more woohoo but I don't know. I didn't participate in any of the woohoo, just the massage.

I don't believe it would be worth it to risked being demonized to feel physically better. I believe acupuncture worked for me because it tensed the muscles and then relaxed them. I don't believe the doctors I went to used occult means. On the other hand, I know that some bodyworkers do indeed indulge in occultism. Back when I was a New Ager, I had Reiki massage in Minneapolis. Never again! I believe her cat was demonized! I never otherwise saw a cat, which sat on the arm of the couch, nod when I was speaking to it's owner. It acted like it knew what I was talking about. That cat was looking me in the eye like it was a person, nodding away. Freaky!

I think this is where you have to pray about it and find a practioner that doesn't engage in the other garbage. Personally, for the morning sickness, I figured it was better to use accupunture than some of the strong drugs on the market during the first trimester where they could harm the baby. But, that was after a lot of prayer and a lot of vomiting and having a naturopath I trusted.

That is what I have heard. No, I would not have it done either.

When I was a case manager for Workman's Comp injuries, a few of the claimants went this route. I never saw any successful results in any of them. Acupuncture doesn't sit well with me, as with any other Eastern beliefs. It sounds and is "new age" which I detest, even though it is a very OLD custom.

I do agree, and I don't indulge in it anymore.

I'm a physical therapist in Canada and I use acupuncture in my practice quite a bit. The training I took was specifically tailored to use western medicine as a base, no yin/yang stuff. Personally I believe the Chinese got the technique right but the philosophy underpinning it wrong.
I have used scalp acupuncture successfully in treating strokes. Spasms, nerve injuries, pain syndromes, etc all have benefited from acupuncture. Having said that, I have also seen spectacular failures using needles for treatment. It is just another tool in the box for me.
Check out what philosophy your local acupuncturist works from before treatment. And, I was reading my Bible this morning (1 Cor 8) about meat offered to idols. They really are not gods that receive the offerings, my opinion, acupuncture falls into the same category.

Sit on a cactus. Cheaper, natural, and the pain will make you forget any other ailments.

I've heard plus and minus. Sometimes it helps, sometimes not. And again be wary of the taoist - occult that normally tags along.
