I've really enjoyed seeing everyone's pictures! I enjoying studying medieval fashions from around the world and recreating them. This is a early period Irish style gown with under-chemise. I appliqued Celtic knotwork peacocks along the skirt after I stitched on trim. I'm working on some Tudor an Elizabethan style gowns right now, it is my idea of fun!

I made everything I am wearing in this photo, some was machine-stitched and some parts were hand-sewn.

Pfft that's great for a guy, if my hubby loses a button on his shirt/pants or rips something he comes to me with puppydog eyes and asks me to fix it
I was going to be a Calvinist, but it just wasn't meant to be!

    Default Sew Excited...lol

    Okay, seriously bad pun.

Momo - that is insanely gorgeous - as a frequenter of Ren Faires - I love it! I already have 2 gowns - both court, so I can't justify splurging on anymore!

I am totally new at the sewing thing, but I was so excited tonight. My hubby is a high school football coach. You've seen these guys, if it doesn't have the team name or logo on it, they don't wear it. Seriously. It does save quite a bit on the clothing budget, since the athletic dept. pays for all of it - .

Well, anyway, I had a stack of about 40 (yes, 40) t-shirts that he decided he didn't want anymore. They went into the garage sale pile, but then I ran across a tutorial on making a skirt from old t-shirts. I tried it tonight and it turned out soooo cute! I was amazed that I was actually able to do it and it only took about an hour! I made a matching headband and now I have a sweet new outfit for the season opener this week!

It was so easy, I am going use other parts of the shirts and make my little ones some skirts! So, if you like football or have kids who play, and you get bored with the typical jeans/team shirt combo - you should try this out. I will try and post a pic, but I'm pretty terrible at it!

So anyway, for a first time attempt - this went pretty well!

My next attempt will be arm-warmers with the thumb-hole - out of t-shirts. I'll let you know how that goes - but it looks pretty simple, all straight stitch.

I really want to learn how to make arm-warmers / fingerless gloves from old sweaters - I have a bunch of those running around as well! So if anyone has any tips in that direction - I would love to hear them.

I just opened my Etsy shop with hair accessories (mostly feathered fascinators, headbands, clips) and I would love to expand with some easier stuff, like the arm warmers and such. It is so fun to make things out of stuff the family has outgrown, or that has been damaged but still has a lot of usable fabric!

These are too cute, beccasue. If you make some for your children, we would love to see pics of those as well. Your dh is gonna like this stunning show of support at the season opener this week. How clever!

Beccasue you did a good job! Congratulations on your first garmet! It really is so much fun to make stuff. I made a brown plaid skirt (simple) last week. I will wear it with a turtleneck and tights. Now, I am all excited after reading your post and may have to sew something tonight.

eta--becca, the color of your wall looks almost exactly like one of my colors. Did you use craker bitz??

Thank you all so much for the compliments....I used to go to Ren Faires as a kid and I have always loved history, especially the 11-17th centuries.

This is what I made over the weekend...I made DH a matching doublet but he will not pose for a photo in it yet I make my own patterns so I can turn things out faster than if I had to use a commercial print pattern.

Well, I know who's gonna design and sew MY robes in Heaven!!

Momo, this just might be your Heavenly calling when we get there, and I daresay you'll have lots of orders from the girls here!!

Default Working on Singed Flowers this week....

This was fun. I actually made the flower from a wrap that came with my wedding dress! I love these flowers, you really can't mess them up! Pic quality isn't so good, iPhone, but it was really fun. I have a ton of stuff I'm doing that you can see on my facebook page - Flight's of Feathered Fancy!

I'm so excited!!! I just finished sewing a linen pair of yoga pants!!!! They fit perfect and are super comfy. This is my first finished garment I've ever done. (I'm a newbie!) Of course, these are nothing compared to all the pretty outfits everyone else has posted!

So how would I upload a pic, anyway?

I had the problem in that my files were too big, so I uploaded everything to Photobucket and the have a part where you can get the URL for forum sites, I copy the URL from photobucket and paste in my message and when you post the message, the pic loads. It was the easiest way I could find to do it -

I would love to see the pants!! I am new to sewing too - I am all for any kind of comfy pants -

I have a pair of fisherman pants from Thailand - I am thinking about using those and just seeing what I can come up with. Those are great pants, since it has an attached string belt the definitely adjust with weight fluctuation!!

My difficulty is finding a commercial pattern that fits properly. Years ago, when I wanted to sew a shirt each for my dad and my FIL, I asked for shirts of theirs that already fit them. I then proceeded to unseam them with my seam ripper and proceeded to use the pieces as patterns. The shirts I made for them fit perfectly. I might like to try making a pair of the comfy yoga pants, if you would post either the name of the pattern or a pic of the finished pair.

all these lovely outfits are making me want to learn how to sew with my old machine! I have a vintage Sears sewing machine that I got for Christmas a few years back. The hardest part for me is trying to figure out how to thread the bobbin! LOL

Lvanett, your machine should have come with a user's guide. If not, you can do a google search, typing in make and model along with the words, 'user's manual'. I found a pdf copy of a singer manual that way, and it cost me $10 to download it, but it was worth it.
Generally, the bobbin is wound at the top of the machine, right next to the balance wheel. A good user's guide will explain all this, usually with pictures.

    Default Dumb Pattern Question

Okay, so I have a question... I am a newbie. (Disclaimer!)

When I cut out my patterns for my yoga pants, I am a size small. But what if I wanted to make a LG or a MED version? The paper pattern is already cut to size small... do I have to re-purchase the pattern?

    Thanks, ladies!
