Default Horizons and the Explode the Code Phonics Program

We are half way through the preschool program (started in July with 180 lessons, we are on #92 today but will get further than this--we actually started on #90 today and are still working right now) and books A,B, and C (Get Ready, Get Set, Go For the Code books) and they are going very well. We will start the actual kindergarten books (Horizons for math, LifePac for Language Arts, but I may go back and get Horizons for that as well since we can move much faster that a classroom can) in November. Things are going really well. My 5 1/2 year old is way ahead of our kindergarteners! She knows all her letters, all the sounds they make (thank you Leap Frog Letter and Word Factories, and so does our 3 year old!), can count to 50, and can write all her capital and lower case letters as well, correctly. She is reading 3-4 letter words as well.

The above are from Alpha Omega Publishers: www.aophomeschooling.com

Explode the Code helped my dyslexic son to read! I LOVE that program...We did every book to the very end and now at 16, he is a very good student. Praise GOD!
We used Horizons also. Some of the other curriculum had too many pictures and colors that were very distracting to the lessons..We late switched to SPECTRUM math books and finished to the 8th grade with them. After the 8th, we used Saxon and also SOS.

Those were the days...Everything was MUCH easier then. Enyjoy it if you can.

I have used Horizons for my DD, K-2 for math. Switched to Christian Light Education (CLE) and can't say enough about it. We used it for reading and language since first grade, and it has been such a blessing. I am so happy for you that you have found something that is working for you too!

    Default Love ETC

My children 6 and 9 have used Explode The Code since pre-school and they just LOVE it. I'm always telling my 9 yr old to only do 4 pages at a time, otherwise she'll be finished too soon, and then what??? LOL!

I've used quite a few different programs for my kids, and I have to say that for us, Explode the Code has been the easiest and most effective... and I don't mean 'easy' in the sense that it is not challenging, it's just that there isn't a bunch of stuff for me to do- we get out the workbooks and do some pages and some review and then we go on to the next thing.

    ...Then, move on!

I know, I just don't want a good thing to end

My dd 9 has plenty of other workbooks she needs to do first as well etc...
