This is insanity on a whole new level. What on earth do you think God is doing to allow him to receive such blessing in over abundance.....? This is just gonna draw more folks to the church....probably looking for miracles. Next thing you know, RW will become the "Purpose Driven Faith Healer? Do you know how he is going to use this...oh Lord...he is going to milk this for all there is....

This is not right at all....
Nope. not shocked when people are gullible enough to play this game, anything is possible.

So where is the $2.4 million going -

    to pay for . . . . ????

Food, clothing for the poor? Tracts for the lost? Supplies for missionaries?
Romans 8:31 "31What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? "

Romans 8:38-39 "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

    Jaybird,

Well....per the article: "The money will go toward the church’s ministries, including feeding more than 200,000 families, helping orphans and supporting bible studies and small group ministries".

Sorry I meant OWL, I am going to sit here and stream that video (will take a while with dial-up) cause I just gotta see it!

Too bad they blew millions sending him all over the world promoting himself and the PEACE plan. There never would have been a need to fleece the flock and play on the emotions of people for those noble needs. (Assuming they go there)

The families and orphans thing is cool. The "bible studies and small group ministries" is fruitless purpose driven garbage.

I don't even know what to say. The garbage these people preach doesn't even make sense. I mean, instead of throwing all of their money into this church, couldn't they just use it to pay their bills?
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

In the event of darkness, depression, sadness, or loneliness, your Bible can be used as a flotation device.

2.4 million? In a few days? At my uncles funeral last month the little country church that had the service, their monthly offering was only $34.
Joh 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

The trouble is men are not willing to let the Scriptures say what they want to say. This is largely due to their training, environment, prejudice, or desire to make the Scriptures teach some favorite doctrine.

Default Rick Warren rakes in $2.4 million after letter plea.

    http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2010...ions.html?_r=1
LAKE FOREST, Calif. (AP) -- Evangelical pastor Rick Warren's plea for donations to fill a $900,000 deficit at his Southern California megachurch brought in $2.4 million, Warren announced to cheers during a sermon at the church on Saturday.

A good evaluation. That's exactly how I view this scenario. A bunch of Post modernists dutifully funding another aspect of their faux-Biblical belief system. The spiritual Zoloft and Prozac costs money.

    That was disgusting.

I have nothing nice or holy to say about this man right now so I'm going to refrain from saying anything else. Other than that I hope his anointed money can somehow shield him from fire and brimstone. Sorry. Couldn't resist.

    Default Questions about Rick Warren

From time to time I've seen posts about Rick Warren but there does not seem to be anything definitive written about the problems with his teachings. A lot of the times there are remarks like "he's a wolf in sheep's clothing" or he distorts scripture but nothing to support the remarks.

What I would like to see is a list with documentation of:

    1. scripture that he has distorted and why it is a distortion
    2. direct quotes by him with a link attached to support the quote - not a blog but the publication or an interview with the quote.
    3. his opinions or leanings which are unscriptural with supporting links where these opinions of his can be verified - again, not blogs which are only someones opinion that has no documentation unless the blog has the documentation in it.

I would like to, possibly, present this to some church leaders who like to use Rick Warren's material.
    **************************************************

" I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes--I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!"
    Job 19:25

Do you want to reach people for Christ with the Gospel message of salvation?

MsSophie, your post couldn't come at a better time. I took a visit to our church "book store" today, just to see what books were being offered. I found a book by Bill Hybels (also tied into the Willow Creek Association - Rick Warren), I found a couple by Joyce Meyer and a bunch more that I don't recognize. I am going to ask the Lord for guidance as I collect information to present to our Pastor and to submit to him in question of why our church is prmoting these books and his view on these teachers. I too want to go in with "proof" to back up what I'm saying.

Does anyone have Rick Warren or Bill Hybels "statement of Faith". I'm having a hard time attending our church right now because I sense a new age movement but at the same time, before I walk away from it I need to make every attempt to put the truth about these teachers forward to our Senior Pastor, to at least give him the opportunity to get rid of this garbage or continue as he is. I pray that the Lord change his heart and point him in the direction of not needing to be "culturally acceptable" in order to get the people in the door (same thing as Bill Hybels, Lee Strobel and Rick Warren have done).

Any and all information would help and MsSophie, if you want me to start my own seperate thread, let me know and I will do so . Thanks for starting this thread, the church needs to start fighting back hard against this heresy and refuse to let it infiltrate our churches!
