Seems to me to be nothing more than an oxymoron. Think about it. You are preparing for THE END of the world? If its the end of the world, and you "survive it", then its NOT the end of the world.

I have seen the show once or twice. It depends what happens before
the rapture, for believers. If we get whomped with an EMP, be it from
terrorists or a massive solar flare, and the
grid goes down, there will be no trips to a store of any kind, you will
have to survive on what's in your house. The big transformers are not
made here, they are ordered from overseas, and it takes months to
replace the big ones. My son and his wife have
four children, one a 2 month newborn. I stashed some stuff mostly
for them, as they will make their way here in case of a grid shutdown.
I have to think of those little ones. Who knows what may happen
next week, next month, if the Lord should tarry.

My brother and I watch this show every week. I think it is funny how some of them act. One group on it were hippies and they did not believe in having weapons to protect themselves and they said that when people from the outside come that they will welcome them and that if someone comes that they don't want to accept then they will ask them to leave. I believe that people need to be prepared for things in the future because they don't know what is going to happen.

About the dog thing, a lot of people don't like dogs. Dogs are loud, time consuming, and require special food. If allowed to go wild, they form packs and can kill people.

If someone's looking at the security issue, and a bad guy comes after you, the first thing the bad guy will do is shoot the dog. There goes your security. Better to buy an extra box of ammo, IMO.

I have a cat, and extra food for him. I am reliant on public transit and my husband and I have health issues. It's only prudent.

One time I ran out and kitty brought me half a mouse for my dinner. He'd eaten the head end. Kitty can get his own dinner, should the need arise.

I find the program very sad; they have no hope for the future. We have Jesus, they have guns and ammo. We have the rapture. They have The End Of The World As We Know It and "When the it hits the fan".

I do believe God has laid it on some people to become "preppers" to prepare them for their roles as tribulation saints. They will need to be off the grid and self-sufficient.

How painfully naïve. If they're lucky a lone gunman or a group of bandits will let them stay alive and just kick them out. One of the most dangerous parts of the hippie mindset is that everyone is inherently good (which is Satan shining through). You can't just politely ask a robber to leave. By engaging in the act of theft the robber has already declared that they aren't playing by the rules.

I understand if someone doesn't want to have a weapon but the hippies don't seem to want to believe that there are dangerous people out there.

I've done some research into the whole culture, in part because my illness has me freaking out about future disasters.

The whole mindset seems to be: get your "preps" - preparations. Keep it all a dark, absolute secret. If you don't, when things get bad everyone will try to beg or steal your stuff; by force. Once things go to hell, get your weapons out and shoot anyone who gets anywhere near your stuff.

It's a very sad mindset, I have to kill everyone before they kill me.

Preparing for disaster? In my book always a good idea. I have never regretted the preparations I have taken.

Do I talk about having anything, in real life? No way.

I saw for myself, if I talked about having anything, people said "Oh, I won't prepare, then, I'll just come to your house".

    Ah. No.

We live in Oklahoma where there are tornadoes, floods, wildfires, droughts, ice storms and even earthquakes. We are prepared for these events like a reasonable person should be. However, we don't have five years worth of freeze-dried food or live in a concrete bunker. The type of events like the Zombie Apocalypse or world depicted in such movies as "The Road" or "I am Legend" could only exist during the Great Tribulation. We will be gone by then.

I've heard the same "I'll just come to your house"...which is why I never talk about it, except with immediate family.

Weighing in here... I think that preparing for disaster is necessary. Regardless of the end times, there are many disasters that can happen at any time. Tornadoes, earthquakes, terrorist attacks, loss of job, etc. I don't feel that laying aside extra supplies/food is a demonstration of a lack of faith. I think (just personal feelings here) that setting aside provisions for hard times is wise and prudent. Can God miraculously provide for His children? Yes. But He also gives us the means, wisdom and abilities to make necessary preparation for hard times, and I feel that, to some degree, that is part of the way He provides for us.

If nothing else, should we be taken Home before I have need of what I've set aside, perhaps someone in need will find it and be able to make use of it.

Anyway, I've seen a few of those episodes, and I think it's quite interesting.

I often think about Gracia Burnham, the Christian missionary, who was kidnapped and had to live
in the jungle for over a year. Her priorities were: a toothbrush, monthly feminine products, bathing
in a river, nail clippers, and something to pull back her hair. Prescription withdrawals were a problem for some of the other kidnap victims.

Simple things. I know it's not the same circumstance as The End of the World, but it's the little things I
think about. Of course, Gracia & her husband faced danger from the kidnappers and jungle critters.

I have peace about the future.

I would like to have a bag packed with batteries, bug spray, first aid kit, small radio, water.

Oh, remember in Corrie Ten Boom's book, she had packed a bag in case she was arrested by the Nazis!
Then she had to leave the bag!

I'm gonna have to go ahead and agree with this
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Cor 1:18
