    Question

not classical, but this is beautiful!

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." These, and "Flight of the Valkyries," "William Tell Overture," and any piece featured in the original Looney Tunes.

I took piano lessons with the teacher using classical pieces for technical purposes (learning the nuts and bolts of the various symbols, practicing things like creschendo, decreschendo, staccato, slurs, etc.). Classical music for piano is very good for learning traditional technique because you have to play it right for it to sound right, whereas other things like hymns can be more subject to the artistic interpretation of the pianist. Famous popular music can also be used for technique, because (for instance) if you don't play "Linus and Lucy" (the Charlie Brown theme) by Vince Guaraldi the same way he did, it just doesn't sound the same. I have the piano music for "L and L," as well as other pieces like "Walking in Memphis," "Desperado," and "American Pie," and try as I might, I just can't do them justice. If I could do nothing but sit and practice for days on end, though, I could probably manage it eventually. However, I can knock "Music Box Dancer," "Chariots of Fire," and "Memory" out of the park! I can even play both parts of "Heart and Soul" if I play it slowly enough.

This isn't classical (neo-classical, maybe) but I wanted to post it because it's just so beautiful. I had the pleasure of hearing this performed live and conducted by Eric Whitacre himself (he also wrote the song).

I love classical! I don't know how to post videos, but some of the ones I like are:
    'Masquerade Waltz' by Khachaturyan
'Sheep May Safely Graze' by Bach
    'Canon in D' by Pachelbel
'In the Hall of the Mountain King' by Edvard Grieg
    ...and all of Tchaikovsky's music!

I especially liked the 2 guys on piano keys playing 'Hungarian Rhapsody'.

"...but thou, O Lord, art a shield for me, my glory and the lifter of my head."
    Psalm 3:3
