This behavior sounds like that of any little boy who is allowed to do whatever he feels like. I've raised three boys (not quite finished -- they're 14, 20, and 25). I've certainly made my share of mistakes. It's a hard job, as most everyone knows! I remember clearly how difficult it was at times to have toddler boys at the homes of people who didn't have children of that age, but we knew we couldn't just let them run wild and show this kind of disrespect. It comes down to being willing to engage in the constant work of training them well. It sounds to me like this young mother needs help in learning how to parent well while her children are still little. There's no shame in asking for help; in fact, it shows wisdom. So many churches have great classes in this subject to help young parents do a good job. If she would be willing to learn, she'll reap the blessings from it!
I think you hit the nail on the head. I visited this mother today (at her own house), and she pretty much told me that she lets her boy do whatever he wants as she constantly holds her infant daughter (who apparently desires the constant close contact). Tough situation.
Jesus saith unto him, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life; no man cometh unto the Father but by me." John 14:6
That is tough. My son was that way in the early months - needed the constant contact. A sling called the Moby Wrap helped tremendously. Suddenly I had my hands free to actually parent again, get dinenr made, get laundry done, etc. He had silent reflux and we didn't know it until he was 4 months old.
One question for you about the Mom. You mentioned the baby is 3 months, right? Is there any chance she has post-partum depression? Because, if she does, she literally might be at the end of her rope with the 2.5 year old balancing his care with the needs of the baby right now. I had a touch of it after DD and when it finally lifted it hit me how tough it really is to have it. I didn't have it badly enough to need medication - more like baby blues - but I have a girl friend who did - it came accross like she was just a negligent Mom, not keeping her little ones under control or keepign her house up when in fact it was actual post partum depression.
"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment." (Matthew 22:37-38)
Good point.
I can't take care of myself, much less the two of us, when I'm depressed and Ron is grown.

My mother actually lost custody of me due to depression and alcohol. Major neglect.
Things were bad enough that CPS got involved and Dad got custody. I didn't catch up with the growth chart for several years.
