Default Could "Unwalled Villages" have a different meaning?

For a long time I've assumed that we were far away from the Gog Magog invasion of Israel. Several reasons for this--I believe the rapture comes first, I believe some sort of event-- war or treaty--would lead Israel to let her defences down. I believe that America still will back Israel as opposed to them standing alone. I don't think Russia and Iran etal would do anything that agressive while America is still a power--but one of the big ones has been that Israel is supposed to be living in safety and be unsuspecting and the attackers are thinking, " I will invade a land of unwalled villages"........

With the recent cyber attacks against Israel and their reliance on a "defence shield" or an electronic and computerized "wall" instead of actual physical walls-- I was wondering if maybe Israel will be unsuspecting and "without walls" after a major cyber attack eliminates their ability to militarily retaliate.

I mean also, if Israel had nukes and weapons to fight off their attackers then it would not make them all finally turn to God and accept Christ. But after God personally saves them from certain destruction- then Israel and the nations will recognize the true God of Israel.....just a thought..

Anyone else think that Israel being "unwalled" may be the result of a cyber-attack?

That's an interesting thought, but if they had just been subject to a cyber-attack that brought down virtual walls, I don't think they could be classified as "peaceful and unsuspecting". Ezekiel 38:8 says "a land that has recovered from war".

What if Israel were victorious through a pre-emptive strike on Iran, and no longer felt a threat and became "betach", the Hebrew word translated "safety", that can also be translated as "careless", as in feeling so safe they let their guard down? I'm getting this notion from here: http://gracethrufaith.com/ikvot-hama...lled-villages/

So I think your first inclination, war or treaty, which would also fit with Ezek 38:8, recovered from war.

I agree with pixel, the prophecy is supported by other than the word "walls".

But I also think the warfare has definitely also gone cyber as well (Stuxnet, hacking, etc.).

the unwalled part is refering to the EZ 38 war. If Ps 83 and Is 17 happen first then that just might lull them into this false security. They could see their immediate enemys dead or no longer a threat and decide that nobody else would be foolish enough to attack them.

    No,

but Israel may gain such confidence in their cyber shield (following a brief battle with Syria/Egypt) that they become lax and
vunerable to a cyber atttack that leaves them defenseless before Russia/Turkey/Persia....

oF COURSE IT REFERS TO eZ 38 AND 39--THAT'S WHERE i TOOK THE BIBLE VERSE FROM. i MUST NOT HAVE EXPLAINED MY THINKING WELL...OOPS, sorry for the caps lock, the granddaughter loves to poke the keyboard when she's on my lap. Anyhow..the other parts about feeling secure and so forth could be because of the security walls and defence shield--once a cyber attack ( unwalled villages) and the attack of Ez38 and 39 could occur almost immediately after or simultaneously..this would certainly be, " an unsuspecting people" and people without walls...just a thought.

I certaintly don't think that there will be physical walls surrounding Israel--maybe they mean the fences/walls seperating Gaza, the Golan Heights, West Bank, Southern Lebanon?...anyhow, Israel I'm sure will be feeling a lot more secure if they take out Iran's nuke facilities..maybe then they will feel more at peace and unsuspecting?

The Psalm 83 war ending with Isaiah 17 will most likely leave ISRAEL a much larger country, but also much weaker having used up much of their weapons and loosing many people. I also see an Obama administration unwilling to resupply them.
The countries that surround ISRAEL that are mentioned in Psalm 83 are not mentioned in Ezekiel 38 and I just do not think the Palestinians would not join Persia and Russia in attack on ISRAEL.
I have always wondered why they are riding horses and not driving trucks in Ezekiel 38, could be computers are not working.

I know some don't take "horses" literally, but it says blood up to the bridle - of trucks?

Makes sense to me also that if Israel's enemies have so far been afraid of her vastly superior weaponry and military might, if the power is somehow cut off, they might take advantage of her small size against their vastly more numerous manpower in attempt to gain control of her "spoils". But for sure either.

I've wondered about the horses, too. How many horses is the scripture talking about? Where will they all come from??

Unwalled villages, there are no walled villages or towns or big cities in Israel now. They are living in unwalled villages as we speak.

Maybe Ezekiel had never seen a truck, so he could not say blood up to the fuel tanks or the top of the wheels either.
But I guess Russia and Turkey do have horse soldiers but I don't know how many, and Wiki is closed.

As for Wiki being down - even Google is protesting.....

Freedom of the Press. It has its good and bad points, but the law being considored needs to be much more forgiving of entities who link to sites in good faith.

And if a linked site then changes its own paths, what was legal suddenly becomes illegal without notice. I believe it totaly trumps "fair use", parody, and other legal uses.

Copyright is something to be protected. China flouts it regularly. But sometimes we go too far.

It is interesting that this is happening, we may see the early attempts at harnessing and manipulating the internet.

As for horses, there are plenty out there. Remember trucks need to run on "Refined" oil. - gas, diesel....

Wars will target such places and quickly shut down the ability to make gas. Armies will need alternate modes of transport.

And 7 years of tribulation distruction will likely make horses and bicycles very valuable commodities. Horses even more so - if you can still feed them.

I am increasingly convinced we should take the horses literally. One major earthquake or a nuclear war (Isaiah 17, Psalm 83 perhaps) could well make Israel inaccessible by conventional methods. - A primarily inaccessible Israel would certainly feel safe and secure wouldn't she. - Horses, pack animals would be ideal.

And who knows what will occur to make the use of oil prohibitive.

It seems to me that we cannot even imagine what lies ahead. The Arab Spring proves that. It wasn't on anyone's event horizon a couple of years ago.

One last note, I remember my former pastor once mentioned that Russia had an enormous horse population. I can't find a source for the comment but maybe someone else can locate the info.

I tend to take "horses" literally too, unless it's clear that we shouldn't. Imo, the fact that he sees the horsemen also might mean something, you generally don't see the drivers of tanks. (I imagine those looking like giant crabs to an ancient mind.)

Here's something I found about the number of horses in Russia, from 2006 though: The figures for Europe show the Russian Federation as having the most horses, at 1,319,358,... http://www.horsetalk.co.nz/archives/2007/09/105.shtml Apparently their horse population was really hurt due to their use in WW1, which is kind of interesting.

These are wild horses. I know we have equestrians here, does anyone know how long it takes to get them captured and trained for riding?

    Thoughts on unwalled villages..

Let's say Israel fights Iran and wins against the onslaught from Iran Syria, etc.. Damascus is destroyed and Psalm 83/Isaiah 17 is fulfilled.. Then Israel is left defenceless (the war would have enormous cost on the countries military and infrastructure) but believing they have finally achieved their peace and the country is in some state of celebration. Could that state of defencelessness be the fulfillment of unwalled villages? The walls of villages historically are the defences of the settlements throughout human history. Only, Russia gathers a host in response and lives up to their security agreements regionally- seeing that the loot of the region is theirs for the taking if they defeat Israel. So the state of peace in such wouldn't be a long term state of relationship in the region, but the short lived elation from defeating the foes who have been threatening her once and for all- until the reality sets in Russia is gathering to make it's move and they are left without the strength to fight another major conflict. Only we know at that point God Himself intervenes to glorify His name among the nations..

We have to remember that, I believe, the world is waiting to see who the next president is because many know that O will cut that military down to two row boats and a Ruger. We won't be as much help against the entire half of the world as you think.

    Default My 2 Cents

I can see where it could easily happen if a Nuke is used to destroy Damascus. An Electro Magnetic Pulse happens when a nuke is exploded. Here is what Wikki says (So glad the Wikki Blackout is over ) Electromagnetic pulse
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article is about the general weapons effect. For other uses, see the more specific topic (for example, Electromagnetic forming)

An electromagnetic pulse (sometimes abbreviated EMP) is a burst of electromagnetic radiation. The abrupt pulse of electromagnetic radiation usually results from certain types of high energy explosions, especially a nuclear explosion, or from a suddenly fluctuating magnetic field. The resulting rapidly changing electric fields and magnetic fields may couple with electrical/electronic systems to produce damaging current and voltage surges.

    http://rr-bb.com/images/smilies/lol.gif
This would knock out all electronics which would include all modern vehicles.

As far as training horses it depends just how trained you want them. In a couple weeks you can have them Green broke well enough to use them but you would need a lot of Cowboys, Vaqueros or Cossacks to train enough for an invading Army!

I too think the "Horses" is literal because my understanding of the Bible (Which is probably much less than most of Y'all's) says it is literal unless it says other wise and I do not find any where it indicates it isn't.

Again just my 2 cents worth and you know 2 cents ain't worth what it used to be!

It doesn't have to be an EMP,we are entering a period of increased storms.

The Solar Storm of 1859 destroyed telegraph communications equipment, even setting some pylons and poles on fire. If a storm of this magnitude were to strike today, it would be much more destructive. Quite possibly many of our electronic gadgets could be mortally injured by the induced currents caused by the Earth's twisting magnetic field. The electric grids and their connected transformers and generators without preparation would be severely damaged.
