Default IDF: Get gas masks before distribution ends

After reading the Sen Fienstein thread, something told me to google Israeli Gas Masks... Here is what I found. Note this is HOT off the press, its not Feb 1st here in the USA yet, but this article is dated Feb 1st, 12

The article is based partly on Israel running out of masks due to the Gov stopping the funding, but a letter was sent to Israeli reservists with a word of caution, stating: “As people whose role in the reserves is to protect the home front we need to understand the need to act now and obtain masks for our families.”... Supply runs out in Feb, 2012... The article further states that requests for masks have climbed due to a fear of war with Iran, but the Gov seems to also be concerned with Assad and Syria (Chemical Warfare)... "It is also concerned with the possibility that President Bashar Assad will be tempted to attack Israel if he feels his regime’s demise is imminent."

"There are a limited number of gas masks...if you don't get one now, you could be left without one," Col. Tirosh writes.

It's sad, imagine life in Israel where one room of your house/apartment is supposed to be airtight and fortified for your family in case of attack and where you find yourself picking up small gas masks for your children on the way home from getting them milk and cereal.

    But they're realistic.

Very real. That is a sad reality that convinces me Iran is fundamentally evil. Not immoral, not unethical, but evil. If I had the money, I would donate to provide every single Israeli with an effective gas mask. I hate seeing the Israeli's go through this, especially the kids.

I just wonder how much longer they can stall these wars.. though I'm sure they could probably stall as long as they want until the rapture occurs. That will really get the ball rolling! I just pray that everyone on earth has enough time afterwards to realize the truth if its in their hearts..

Are there any organizations in Israel that would accept donations so more can attain a gas mask? I was originally thinking of buying some masks to send, but not sure if that would be ok. For all I know, it might violate a trade law or something. Im sure there are specific qualifications and details required for the type of mask Israelis need.

    Bless your heart, GeoWolf.

    I don't think that's possible, it's kind of a mess, read this:

Gas mask distribution to be suspended By YAAKOV KATZ 12/13/2011 05:30

IDF Home Front Command plans to suspend distribution due to government refusal to allocate funds necessary for mask production. By REUTERS

Despite concern the country could come under a chemical attack due to the growing instability in Syria, the IDF Home Front Command plans to suspend distribution of gas masks to the public in two months due to a government refusal to allocate funds necessary to continue their production.

Currently, 3.5 million citizens have received new gas masks under the IDF’s distribution program, which began in 2006 with the collection of the public’s old gas masks.

Behind the shortage is a disagreement between the Defense Ministry and the Treasury over where the funding for the continued refurbishment and distribution of the masks will come from. The Defense Ministry has asked for a budget supplement while the Treasury has argued the money should come from the regular defense budget.

A senior Home Front Command officer told The Jerusalem Post on Monday the distribution would come to an end in February after the remaining budget ended.

“The result would be disastrous since the whole program will be dismantled and the production line at the factories will shut down,” the officer said. “It will take months just to get things up and running again if and when a new budget is received.”

News of the lack of gas masks comes as the IDF is increasingly concerned with the possibility that Syria’s extensive arsenal of chemical weapons will fall into rogue terrorist hands. It is also concerned with the possibility that President Bashar Assad will be tempted to attack Israel if he feels his regime’s demise is imminent.

Last month, the IDF held a civil defense exercise to prepare the Home Front Command for a biological and chemical attack.

Next month, it will hold the first ever drill simulating a radioactive dirty bomb attack.

The officer said even if the government allocated the entire budget required for the gas masks, it will still take two years to manufacture and distribute them to the public.

“There are two companies in Israel that manufacture gas masks and they are limited in the amount they can produce,” he said. “Even if the money arrived today, it would still take two years before all Israelis have a gas mask.”

Distribution of gas masks is overseen by the Home Front Command but is carried out by the Israel Postal Company, which comes to people’s homes and delivers the kits. The IDF has recorded a sharp climb in the number of Israelis contacting the company in recent weeks up to 181,000 in November in comparison to just 54,000 in October.

One of the catalysts is believed to be the recent media reports on a possible Israeli attack against Iran as well as a new campaign by the Home Front Command to get residents of Tel Aviv and Haifa – two cities believed to likely be the most threatened in a future war – to collect their masks. http://www.jpost.com/Defense/Article.aspx?id=249215

Something to look into, I'm assuming they're old and discarded by the Israelis but if they're still usable...isn't it better to get these back than to have nothing at all?

It is a very sad situation. I was reading an Israeli blog from a Mother, it was all about her exploits in getting masks for her kids. She had to essentially use the address of friends that live in the danger areas (somehow) to get the masks approved. The there was the appointment for a fitting for each child, then the wait to have them delivered and the trust that the friends would notify her when they arrived. She was a settler and as she put it "not considered a true Jew" because they do not live in the urban areas. Sad just sad...

Woo-hoo! I've been offline cuz my usual computer is in the shop again. I only now figured out how to use this laptop at home.

My friend in Israel emailed me back, he used to be an officer in the IDF.

He said Israel cannot buy their own gas masks back from Amazon because some hacker in Saudi Arabia (?) might be able to get the credit card numbers. Bibi would be willing to use his own, but they just can't.

    So duct-tape won't work?

Amazing. The Israeli techs need to fix this problem, not just for the masks but for all online purchasing security.

So, can't we purchase them here in the US and then ship them back to Israel for distribution? Would your friend be willing to recieve a few thousand packages and redistribute? We might slip in a few cookies and New Testiments while we are at it too...you know by accident.

Yes, my sweet, they have the best anti-virus software in the world but this is a bugagoo, I guess. There have been several instances where the info of Israelis has been stolen by enemies, passports too.

Yeah, most of us could afford at least one gas mask...sending it would be the more expensive thing. But I would certainly do it. And New Testaments and tracts.
