Default Anyone had surgery on knee cartilage?

DH has just had an MRI after injuring his knee about 5 months ago and they say he has torn his cartilage in his knee and will need key hole surgery to trim off the torn bit. Just wondered if anyone has had it or knows someone who has. Really just interested in the outcome and if it relieved the pain and they had a full recovery.
Thanks if you can share your experience. It'll be helpfull to hear from you.

My DH had a tear in his miniscus (the cartiledge behind the knee cap) and had surgery on it. He fully recovered. Two years later there hasn't been another tear or pain related to it. He did have to have other surgery, but it was totally unrelated. While the doctor was in there, he said the miniscus looks great.

I started having knee pain back in the late 90's. My PCP referred me to a knee specialist. I had chondromalacia.

The "Knee" guy told me, and this is a direct quote "Once we cut open your knee, it will never work as well as it did before" He then advised physical therapy.

I found the handout with the exercises a lot more helpful than anything else I'd tried.

My husband has decided to live with a torn rotator cuff (on his bad arm) rather than undergo yet more surgery.

Oh, and I ran a half marathon on that knee, just a couple years later. 13.1 miles.

10 years ago my right knee was torn to a shred durning a football game, i tore my acl, mcl, and miniscus. The miniscus they just shave it down until the damage is gone. Recovery isnt long and will be feeling better before you know it. Even though mine was reconstructed, I can still do things I did before. Hope this is helpful.

Thank you all. Very encouraging to hear of success, Praise God. DH is believing God for healing long before any op. Thanks again.

I've had arthroscopic surgery to remove bucket handle cartilage tears to both knees. Recovery time is very short. You can do most of the rehab yourself, at home. No or minimal scars.

My Wife had that done ab out six weeks ago. SHe has almost finished with the PT. Her walking is much improved, buit I have to keep nagging her to take the elevator more at work. Dont want to over work it while its healing, and cartilage heals slowly.

It's going to be such a long wait for the op (if by then he's not healed!) The waiting list is at least 6 months, but knowing the NHS it'll be longer. My worry is how much damage will be done in the mean time and will it result in forced time off work while waiting. As we do tree work, it's obviously not possible to rest. The only thing I do know in all this, is it sure is good to know the Lord. Thanks again for the encouraging replys, praying your wife recovers fully, Hootmon.

I had a torn meniscus last year and surgery in August. The pain has lessened considerably. I have some trouble walking and often use a cane. I have to go to the health club 2-3 times a week to strengthen it. I also take lots of cod liver oil pills to help with the residual pain.

My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.
For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; the flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land; the fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.
