Default Pastel de Tres Leches - Three Milks Cake???

My birthday is coming up soon and I would love to make a Pastel de Tres Leches Cake. I could go and order one from a Mexican bakery, but I want to try it on my own. Anyone have any good recipes for it?

Sorry, no I don't, but I used to have this a lot when I was in LA. Ooohhh, so delicious!

The same little lady who gave me her Asado recipe makes a wonderful Tres Leches Cake. The cake is made using a Duncan Hines cake mix which is "tweaked". I'll post it this evening, if it sounds like one you may like

The important part is to not skimp on the 'milks'. This is NOT a low-calorie dessert.

This is a beautiful cake. The original recipe calls for it to be baked in a 9x13 pan, but it's gorgeous as a 2 layer cake. Hope you like it!

    Tres Leches Cake

1 Duncan Hines Butter Recipe Yellow cake mix
2 T. freshly grated lemon zest
    4 large eggs
    1 cup milk
1/4 c. canola oil, or extra light olive oil
    1 t. vanilla extract
    1/4 t. almond extract

    Tres Leches Sauce
    fresh strawberries, pineapple, and kiwi
    juice of one lemon
toasted chopped nuts, macadamias or sliced almonds are my favorite
    toasted sweetened coconut
    sweetened whipped cream

Preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour a 9x13 baking pan. Set aside.
Beat cake mix, lemon zest, eggs, milk, oil, vanilla, and almond until smooth and pour into prepared pan. Bake 35-40 minutes until golden and the center is done. The center may sink a little, but it'll be hidden after the assemblage. Set aside to cool completely.

Toss sliced fruit with lemon juice. Chill.

    Tres Leches Sauce

    14 oz. sweetened condensed milk
    12 oz. evaporated milk
    1 c. heavy cream

Heat in a heavy saucepan until it just boils. Cool and chill.

    To assemble:

Poke holes in cooled cake. Top with sliced fruit (drain any juice). Pour cooled Tres Leches Sauce over all. Chill until ready to serve. Give it several hours for the sauce to ooze down into the cake.
When ready to serve top with toasted coconut, nuts and whipped cream.

I've seen a Duncan Hines "Tres Leches" cake mix in the grocery store. It looks good, but I'm not fond of "wet" bread/cake (too mooshy).
