Well I can't speak for anybody else here but the moment I saw this story after coming on here just now, my heart rate went up to about 300! However, I imagine my heart was hardly the only one here that leapt. While only God knows when Isaiah 17 is going to happen, a news story like this will definitely give your heart rate a jump. My prayers are with the people of Damascus now.

I have heard it said by experts that it is not difficult to detonate a nuke once built. The hard part is to prevent it from going off.

I hear you, WarriorPrincess! And just an FYI for everyone, I just started reading "The Departure" by TERRY JAMES, Dr. David Reagan, et al (downloaded it from Amazon to my IPad) and I would say many of our family here in RR are, what the authors would say, "Spiritual Meteorologists." Being born again and indwelled by the Holy Spirit we can sense and be more alert to the times and seasons--we are watchmen, so, of course, we're going to sit up--hearts a-jumpin'--and take note! I, too, am praying for the people of Damascus!
Now when these things begin to take place, look up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near Luke21:28

I dont believe that is a true statement. Considering what is required to start the chain reaction, I don't think that statement can be true.

Agreed. But we need to make sure we're not the kind of meterologists who tell everyone that tsunami-caused 20-foot waves are going to destroy the town and then they turn out to be just a couple of 12-inch waves.

Who knows, the destruction of Damascus is likely a tribulation event but the activity in the Syrian capital and in Syria more broadly suggests, just possibly, that we are seeing those chain of events in motion leading to Isaiah 17. Even more amazing, less it is all sheer coincidence, in light of other indicators elsewhere around the world.....

I can almost feel the Hand of the Restrainer loosening His grip on this age. Will there be a hindering act or decision that will add another handfull of grain to the hourglass of prophecy? I'm not seeing one develope at this point. While Damascus continues to appear in the headlines, Isaiah 17 is materializing and condensing into a very plausible event for the near future. While there is no accounting for the Lord's timing, it is hard to imagine this situation not escalating from sporadic strikes to a severe conflict.

I love the surgical and precise nature of prohecy. The right events always happen at the right place at the right time. While I am normally very reserved and conservative about prophecy, these recent stories out of Syria have got my attention for sure. What's making me so curious about this situation is that no one seems to be doing anything to stop it. While the world is distracted by the the possibility of an Israel/Iran conflict, Damascus gets bigger and bigger on the horizon. Even more amazing, these events are the catalyst for other prophecies that will happen AFTER we have been raptured. Isaiah 17 is on the fast track to being fulfilled, and soon after Ezekiel 38 will follow.

When I see the headline: "CITY OF DAMASCUS DESTROYED," I am going to start putting out extra food and water for my animals each day and leave bibles all over my house for people to find after I'm gone. That headline would be a sign no pre-trib prophecy watcher could refute, no matter how reserved and conservative.

I know, Praying. Especially the past few days I have soooo wanting to go Home! I can't bear to watch any news or television, for that matter. (I'm even "bored" with March Madness--NCAA basketball!) I just want to read from His Word, come here, read my downloaded e-books ("Heaven" and "The Departure"), pray and sleep.

    Syrian rebels 'in Damascus firefight'

A firefight is reported to have erupted in Syria's capital, Damascus, between the rebel Free Syria Army and the forces of President Bashar al-Assad.

Witnesses say the sound of machine-guns and rocket-propelled grenades can be heard from the district of al-Mezze.

The neighbourhood, in the centre of Damascus, is home to several security facilities and is one of the most heavily guarded parts of the capital.

In January the Free Syria Army briefly seized several Damascus suburbs.

Al-Mezze has been the scene of large anti-government protests.

"There is fighting near Hamada supermarket and the sound of explosions there and elsewhere in the neighbourhood," a resident told Reuters news agency.

"Security police have blocked several side streets and the street lighting has been cut off."

I remember a live camera link to a park in Damascus, Syria I found during Israel's Cast Lead campaign. I had this buried deep in my backup files as my computer has crashed twice since then

I think it was just a few (several?) days ago that I was reading how Damascus was untouched by the country's conflict. The article was accompanied by photos of people shopping and simply going about their business. Amazing how fast things are happening.

The challenge is having the fissal material. Once you have a bomb built it is just a matter of practice to get a reliable start.

The common way is a layer of explosive around the uranium. The layer has detanators spaced evenly around it so that the blast compresses
the nuclear material enough to start the reaction. It is not that difficult if you build it right.

One thing that might happen is a partial detonation that disburses mass amounts of radio-active debre all over the city.....

    making it uninhabitable....

And if the blast releases chemical agents nearby.....

Agree! Also, it's the fact that Damascus is not sitting in a peaceful state. There's unrest aplenty, which makes the possibility, in light of all of the other prophecies coming to the fore, of the Damascus prophecy coming on the horizon.
