Thread: What can a Born Again Christian do to lose salvation?

  1. #41

Default Can you be a Christian and ...

Short answer is yes. One can be a Christian and not believe everything God has said in the Bible. I'm assuming that is what you really referring to. Who among us is firmly set in our hearts and minds about everything God has said while we still contend with the natural as well as the spiritual man and in a constant state of growing in knowledge and grace?

It occurs to me that is what the Lord was getting at when He said, 'And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose , and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.'

Interesting that John never mentioned this criteria for identifying a Christan brother. Now anyone can claim to be a Christian but does the one have any of the hallmarks that John mentions in his 1st epistle I think is more to the point.

If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie , and do not the truth:

If we say that we have not sinned , we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

He that saith , I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.

Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

Paul's statement in Romans is poignant as well, But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

    Good thread.

There are going to be some surprises (or feigned surprises) for (and from) the wolves. "Did we not cast out demons in your name?" Response: "Depart from me, ye workers of iniquity (lawlessness) - I NEVER KNEW YOU" (emphasis mine).

I'm sure we would all agree there's a difference between a new or "unlearned" Christian and a wolf in sheep's clothing. Jesus was harshly clear:

    John 8:47

A few verses earlier He explains that the wolves can't hear him because they are "OF (THEIR) FATHER THE DEVIL". (More emphasis mine) Ouch! Jesus never mealy-mouthed:

whited sepulchres full of dead men's bones
    serpents
    snakes
    fox (Herod)
    hypocrites

I realize we aren't judges - just fruit inspectors. But I must admit, I am REAL suspicious of "learned" people who are selectively illiterate, deaf, and blind when it comes to the Word.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

Give the Spirit time. Wean from the milk. God cannot lie. The meat awaits.

The older I've gotten the more easily impressed I am with the notion that if I have a problem with the Word, my default position is to trust God and seek to resolve whatever confusion may have arisen from my problem or one I'm researching for another. God's never let me down so far. I don't expect He ever will and I know He won't and I'm content to not let the few things not enumerated in the Bible sway my opinion regarding what is in the Bible. It's Truth. It's believable. Believe it.

Agreed. It's usually the so-called 'experts' who are the most clueless. Their pride in their earthy intellect blinds them to The Truth.

    My Rapture/Left Behind Message

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast.

How do you lose salvation? First you have born again and saved. I am not sure what that means. Then you have truly born again and truly saved. That is what I shall answer. Only a complete rejection of Christ will do it.This person would never want to come back and he would not be allowed to if he wanted to. I know of no one that is truly saved that would ever completely reject Christ. It is only a son of perdition that would do such a thing and I don't know if he would have accepted Christ in the first place. Disagreeing with Him for a time and complete rejection of Him are very different. We could not stand to be separated from Him for even a moment. Think about it. Complete rejection. Not me!

Changing the question, changed the premise.

There is nothing a believer can do or not do to lose salvation. We are sealed. We were purchased.

We dont save ourselves, so how can we unsave ourselves?
I accept nothing from man as truth...
only that, One is the truth. (John 14-6)

We can't lose salvation. If we do then we were never saved in the first place.

Ditto. We must remember that there are many wolves in sheeps clothing.
