NIV Omissions?

I was raised catholic and didn't read God's instruction book until he saved me from death. I started with the NIV Life Application. Started with page one and read the concordance before going to the next page. That was the Bible that began my understanding of God's purpose for me. I never went anywhere without it and have since passed it on to my oldest daughter with duct tape holding it together. I now stay in the KJV, however I use www.biblos.com for research, word translation and also to read line by line comparisons when friends ask my opinion about different translations. What a great testimony, The Holy Spirit is the one that confirms the truth as He did with you through reading the NIV. I love to hear stories like yours.
Millions have come to the truth around the world by reading the NIV as their first Bible. I've heard some say that only through the KJV can one truly be saved, that just makes no sense to me when it's the Holy Spirit that leads us.

My main book is the NASB version right now. I've never been a big fan of the KJV but have both the KJV and the NKJV. What I really wanted to share is that I was convicted and saved while reading the "Living Bible". My point is that while many if not all of the translated versions are far from perfect, and some much less perfect than others.... If a sinner like myself can be convicted after reading from the Living Bible... most versions are probably fine. I think I've given all my kids the NIV bible. I expect that's good enough for now. Hopefully they'll all, at some time or another, study the Word so diligently that they'll find other translations they prefer.

I agree with Tall Timbers. When a person is just starting out almost anything is good for stating. As you get more into study that is when you need to find what best suits you. I have all study Bibles now. KJV,NASB,NIV and I have them in Scofield,Ryrie,Zondervan archaeological and Tim LaHaye. I find them all useful for a better understanding. Find one that leans toward pre trib.

There are some scriptures warning us not to add or remove from His Word like many other versions. I used to use other versions a long time ago until I got so sick after finding out there are so many missing words. That's why I'm sticking with my King James Bible.

Deuteronomy 4:2 "Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you."

Deuteronomy 12:32 "What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it."

Proverbs 30:6 "Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar."

It is interesting to me to see how this Bible version controversy has really done nothing more than discourage people from reading the Bible, divided brothers and given the enemy a laugh.

I don't see that, people who aren't reading God's words are just looking for excuses.

By the way have you noticed that Alistair Begg uses the NIV, Ravi Zacharius uses the NIV, John MacArthur is touting the ESV and Dr Stanley uses the NASB. It is intersting listening to Vernon McGee often correct his favorite version, the KJV, when a word could have been better translated.

Oh I so agree.
There are some so called translations that should just be burnt.
The two mentioned by buzzardhut are near or at the top of the list.
NKJV, KjB are great.
But I agree that reading Phillips, NIV, RSV, NAB etc is still better than not reading God's word at all.
I started with the Good News Bible when I got saved, graduated to the Living Bible, then New American then finally discovered NKJV. Stuck with it ever since.

Surprise WOG! The people who put together the KJV translation added and removed words. Do more studying.

God has used the NIV many times to speak to my heart and I will stick with that translation. I also have an Amplified Bible whcih I like for study and a Contemporary English Version which is good for just reading but is a bit iffy in some parts and I don't use it often. Use my NIV every day and the Amplified weekly at least. My brain cannot wrap around the KJV or the NKJV but my Mom loves her NKJV, so I think that if it is the right version for you, God will give you peace about reading it and if it is not, He will let you know that also.
