Default Did Jesus live "off the grid"?

    I was reading today:

    Matthew 8:20 KJV
And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

or NIV for those who prefer it:

Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

Also Jesus and his cousin John spent a lot of time in the wilderness. John lived of locusts and wild honey in the wilderness, and did not wear clothing bought from a store (Matthew 3:4). Jesus often spent long periods of time in the wilderness fasting and praying.

I was wondering if this meant that Jesus and John lived "off the grid"? Did John pay tax or use money, or even have a job?

Not really sure one can equate today's "grid" with the realities of life two thousand years ago. People paid taxes, participated in the census and were generally involved in their communities, trading, buying and selling, etc. Jesus and the Apostles were hosted in many abodes throughout their ministries.

Come soon Lord Jesus - Take us Safely Home

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

By "living off the grid" you mean homeless yes Jesus was homeless. He did have friends who gave him a place to sleep now and then through his ministry.

I'm pretty sure Jesus could crash at Mary's casa anytime He wanted to, though she didn't have a basement, but He was too busy going about His Father's business to be concerned with it.

Revelation 22:17a The Spirit and Bride are now saying, "Come!" The ones who hear are now saying, "Come!" The ones who thirst are now saying, "Come!" Come LORD Jesus !

Some pastors have claimed that Jesus was a millionaire.

Jesus went away from the crowds to concentrate on His time with the Father and to recharge to go back into the world of people where He lived. Subtle distinction perhaps.

I'm not aware of a money-making career for John but Jesus was a carpenter and we can be sure the tax-happy Romans got their hands on part of that income. After all, it was Jesus Who told us to render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's.

Almost certainly John was under a Nazirite vow from birth, he could definitely handle money though, as that is not part of the vows.

    That.

Or, He couldn't get a green card to fly to the Idaho mountains to live like a hermit.

    Joel 3:2

I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will put them on trial for what they did to my inheritance, my people Israel, because they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land.

I wonder where they get that from. I have not seen it in any Bible I've read. I could understand them saying that though to justify their own wealth from fleecing their flock.
Mark 13:31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
Coming again coming again maybe morning maybe noon maybe evening and maybe soon!
Coming again coming again O what a wonderful day it will be! Jesus is coming again!

This is usually their proof text:

2 Corinthians 8:9 "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich."
"Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God." Romans 5:1-2 NKJV

....and is stark evidence of them completely missing the point....

While I "get" your overall intent - it is not accurate to say that Jesus was homeless.

While Jesus was here on Earth,He willingly relinquished His eternal riches and most of the privileges of His deity.Jesus and his disciples depended entirely on the hospitality of others.
Jesus said Luke 9:58 "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head".
I know some transients who have a place to stay sometimes when they are not sleeping underneith the bridge.

Context is always key to understanding scripture. Look to the verses before and after the one you would use to support your view and consider the audience. Jesus meant that the world He came to save had no place for Him (think John 15:18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you) not that He was not homeless in the sense you imply.
