I don't know either and it happens to me too.
After the first invalid url I just click on *Forum* on the left and it lets me on anyway.

Mine has been doing that for a long time; I just figured it was I who was doing something wrong. Guess not!

The issue is in the VBulletin forum on the administration side a problem in the settings for the Forum URL
The administrator for the forum would need to set the correct forum URL here in the setting:
Admin CP -> Settings -> Options -> Site Name / URL / Contact Details -> Forum URL

I'm so glad you started this thread so-blessed. I figured I might not be the only one to have this come up. I was in the habit of clicking the Log On button and "failing" once, then typing in my login info. It works out that way, too.
