Lots of the younger Catholics I'm meeting and witnessing to are subscribing to some new age ideas (that they jokingly call new age light...all of the new age with a fraction of the crazy), along with Buddhism and other ideas I haven't been able to identify yet. Seems like they are just taking what they like from every school of thought and leaving that which they don't like behind, focusing heavily on "positives" and "negatives". One in particular attends mass regularly and calls himself a Catholic, once stated to someone in front of me that Jesus Christ is savior and told me that he didn't need to watch the movie "The Passion of the Christ" because he read the book, and then later denied Christ's resurrection and told me that it was impossible for us to know God. When I replied that it was possible to know God through His word, the Bible, he cut me off and stated that the Bible was not God's word. After that he informed me that he didn't believe in angels or demons or evil and informed me that I'm sick all the time because I allow negative energies into my life worrying about evil and such (I have an immune disorder). Crazy stuff. I stopped trying to figure out exactly what religion he's getting faulty information from in order to refute it because it seems like it's too many to number, and just give him the truth because there's just one truth, God's word. He thinks that belief also causes me problems in my life because it's so negative. I think he may be getting lots of this from AA, not positive, but I think so.
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. ~ Matthew 6:19-21 ~
