'Jew,' the New Taunt of the Euro 2012 Championships
Fans are being warned against traveling to the Ukraine for the Euro 2012 Championship for fears that they risk being attacked by Nazi mobs.

Supporters of England’s Metalist Kharkiv team are being warned against traveling to the Ukraine for the European Soccer Championship, set to kick off June 8, for fears that they risk being attacked by Nazi mobs.

Britain’s Foreign Office’s Euro 2012 travel advice warns: “Those of Asian or Afro-Caribbean descent and individuals from religious minorities should take extra care” this year as they consider whether to attend the highly anticipated championship.

Both England and France have a following of hardcore, dedicated fans known as ‘Ultras’ – a name given to football fans who put on displays of support using homemade banners, flares and chanting. Most notable, however, is their perpetual violence against foreigners.

“This is a country where football fans use the word Jew as an insult. In a match at Krakow, both sets of Ultras are caged like animals in their terraces behind metal fencing,” wrote Chris Rodgers in an article published in The Daily Mail. “The Ultras supporting the team of Wisla are taunting their local rivals calling them Jewish ‘******’ Many wear T-shirts with anti-Semitic slogans.”

Fans can also be seen wearing custom-made T-shirts with the slogans such as ‘National Army Against The Jews’.

In the supporter’s bar, the bartender greets fans with a Nazi salute and customers can see a huge mural of the Celtic cross, often adopted as a symbol of white supremacy, on the wall, the newspaper reported.

Ukraine’s President Viktor Yanukovych has downplayed the security concerns of many Europeans planning to travel to the country for the championship, including a warning by former English soccer captain Sol Campbell who warned fans to “stay at home, watch it on TV. Don’t even risk it… because you could end up coming back in a coffin.”

“We have a list of people who behaved aggressively at football matches. Their numbers are tiny, they are known to us and preventive measures will be taken,” Yanukovych said.

When the Metalist team scores, hundreds of Ultras punch their chests, salute and shout ‘Sieg Heil!’ Of their Nazi ‘Hail Victory’ gesture. Fans, however, insist that ‘It’s just a bit of fun.’

“The police are not helpful at all,” explained a student with a bloodied nose. “They won’t protect us. We have been here for years and we are always attacked but the police do nothing.” http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/156528

In 2001 I got to go on a tour of Eastern Europe, it included Poland and Auschwitz. The tour guide for Auschwitz made a very poignant statement as we looked at the buildings. In remarking about the terrible thing that was done there she said, "And Poland has still not learned the lesson." It's truly a mystery why any Jew would stay in Europe or Russia.

I was once watching on a PBS station the TV news broadcast from France. It had subtitles but it was still interesting. I happen to catch a broadcast that was covering an incident at the De Gaulle Airport. An obese French man was suing Air France for not letting him board the plane, they humiliated him in public by measuring him; he was too fat for the seats. The lawyer for the airline made the comment IN COURT that they weren't saying anything bad about him, they didn't say he "was a Jew". How I would have liked to have the VCR recorder at the ready.

That my friends is basically Europe, most certainly, Poland, France, Austria and Russia.
You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. Ps. 18:28

I think about the 10 lost tribes when I see these things. They went somewhere. The three continents they had easy access to were Africa, Asia and Europe. There is evidence that some of the tribes settled in Europe. I wonder how many people who are anti-semites would be shocked to find that the blood of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob courses through their veins.

My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.
For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; the flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land; the fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.

Some do...most probably don't. I find articles like this quite hilarious actually. My perspective will be a bit different than most since my mom is European (from Spain). Soccer (especially International Soccer) carries a special nationalistic flair and ethnic pride that Americans just simply cannot understand. The European press works the same way as the American media in always covering stories that fit their agenda--yet never report the other side.

Case in point: The above article. Sure we all know Ant-Semitism is horrific as is real racism, but Europeans are hardly the only ones behaving this way.

    1. Mexican fans love to taunt the Americans by chanting "Osama" (in reference to Bin Ladin) during games against the USA. http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/4236314/

    2. Japanese "right wing groups" (LOL) have the audacity to use their nations old battle flag during matches and love to taunt Korea, China, Taiwain, the Philippines and other East Asian Nations with chants & songs of the WWII era.

    3. In Africa, rioting & taunting fans & players is a national passtime. Hundredes of people have died in stampedes and attacks in the last decade alone.

    4. Heck, even Israeli's are guilty of this--take Beitar Jerusalem (the soccer club in Israel's capital). Their hooligans shout racist insults to European & Arab teams as well. Try google

Unfortunately, soccer has become our modern "gladiator games" and the fans get rowdy and violent when it comes to their team. For the media to accuse one continent/group (and they always focus on Europe) of abuse is so irresponsible it really reeks of a lack of journalistic integrity.

The Jews have always been quite good a maintaining their heritage and identity. Even during Pentecost after the resurrection, every tribe was in attendance, spread throughout the known world at the time.

The Celtic cross is a symbol of white supremacy?? I never heard of this before. I have a celtic cross, in silver, it is quite beautiful. I have always thought the Celtic designs artistic and interesting.

That's the media for you! The Iron Cross (German Cross) is also "associated" with nazism somehow too according to the media. Actual...come to think about it--any cross probably is a symbol of 'white-supremacy' to them.

Arutz Sheva is not a schlock rag, they know nazism and they know it is boiling over in Ukraine, the focus of the OP. All non-Aryans are being warned not to go there.

My whole point is that this is nothing new to soccer--it happens everywhere. I had my life threatened in Bucharest, Romania for daring to wearing a stripe of the opposing team's home color. Soccer fans are militant everywhere. Unfortunately, it's the ugly side of the game.

The point of the OP was that the neo-nazis are forcing warnings be given about going to the games with particular concern given their hatred of Jews.

And hatred of opposing countries, of non-whites, and of pretty much anybody else but their own hooligan factions. I don't know how much you know about soccer but taunts are part of the game--it is what it is. There are obscene songs & chants made by fans about certain players/groups/teams that are sung during play. I'm actually shocked that Arutz Sheva would go through the trouble of writing such an ignorant article as if this is something new. Jews are IMO without a doubt safer going to Ukraine/Poland than traveling to S. Africa for the last World Cup. Not trying to argue--since I follow soccer (and have for years) I'm kinda left about this.

My grandson is 4 years old and goes to a Christian pre-school. My daughter called me last night and told me that the parents and kids had some kind of get together for soccer or t-ball or something, and that she was talking to this nice young woman. The woman made a couple of remarks that had to do with going to church and my daughter asked her "where do you go to church?"

Some children ran up and interrupted them and she didn't answer. Then, when the children left again, my daughter again asked her where she goes to church. My daughter said that then she could tell that the other mother looked uncomfortable and embarrassed, and in a low voice, said "we're Jewish!" She said she was afraid to say anything because two other mothers had stopped letting their sons play with her son because of them being Jewish!

My daughter just looked at her and said "are you SERIOUS?? That's ridiculous; Jesus Christ was Jewish! They're idiots." She said the woman told her how relieved she was to know that it made no difference in the way my daughter treated her or her son."

Those mothers are really being good Christian examples to that young mother, huh?? BTW, this happened in MISSISSIPPI!!!!!! If the prejudice is THERE, it's everywhere. People are really unbelievable!

I do know as a fact that there is still A LOT of prejudice towards the Jewish people in the Ukraine that has nothing to do with soccer.... The soccer game just brings it out more....

That saddens me to hear that too--especially since Jews have such a rich history in the Crimea and Ukriane. I know a few secular Jews who travel to Eastern Europe quite often and they never say anything regarding that.

That doesn't mean that it doesn't exist... Many have to hide the fact that they are Jews... It shouldn't be too much of a surprise....the Jewish people are subject to prejudices even here in South Florida! Everywhere they go!

I think what you aren't getting Florian is the distinction that some are trying to make. We all understand the nationalistic pride--sometimes even township fanatacism vs another city...but the difference is the NAZI hatred of Jews is an ethnic hatred- a truly different level of hatred and thinly veiled evil that transcends nationistic fanaticism.

By the way, as an American, I will never get the massive interest in a game that is so slow and is 90% inactive kicking around the ball at midfield-and only 10% actually exciting with corner kicks, breakawyas downfield or shots on goal....I know I'm vastly outnumbered in the sports favorites category worldwide--but give me some non-stop end to end action like hockey any day ( and also hockey players don't play dead if they get a boo boo on the shin or a step on the toe)
