Bible Monster Storm To Hit Australia

    http://www.news.com.au/national/wide...1226393612547#

June 12, 2012 – AUSTRALIA - Strong winds battered South-West coastal communities of Western Australia as a dangerous storm front approached overnight. The intense storm packing dangerous winds of up to 125km/h – consistent with a category two cyclone – is expected to persist into the early hours of this morning. Last night Cape Naturaliste and Cape Leeuwin have already recorded gusts of up to 96km/h, while winds at Busselton Airport have touched 87km/h. Closer to the metropolitan area, Rottnest Island was also being buffeted with persistent gusts above 80km/h. FESA warned people living in parts of WA, south of a line from Geraldton to Laverton to Forrest, to take action with the start of the dangerous weather. “This intense storm will be of similar strength to the system that affected the southwest on Sunday,” FESA said in a statement late yesterday. If they have not already done so, FESA advises that people should stay away from windows and ensure pets and animals are in a safe area. Motorists planning travel in or to the South-West region should review unnecessary travel plans. Nine News reports that there has been a scramble for supplies in southern suburbs- with shelves left empty. The highest winds recorded during Sunday’s storm was 146km/h, one of the highest recorded gusts in the South West. But much of the South West was buffeted by destructive gales up to 125km/h. As the clean-up continued from Sunday’s storms, Nine News reports that FESA has called in the defense department, with 100 naval personnel assisting in the Mandurah and Rockingham areas. Another 25 people from South Australia’s SES flew in yesterday, while other states have more crews on standby. Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Neil Bennett said the winds would be particularly strong on the south coast, but would affect the entire southern half of the state. “It is going to be really nasty down there,” Mr. Bennett said. “Everywhere is going to be hit, but the worst of it is going to be that south coastal area.” Mr. Bennett said destructive winds could last until about 2am (WST). “Overnight we can expect those 125km/h winds and as we’ve seen this week, that sort of wind is strong enough to start taking the roofs off houses.” Mr. Bennett said the storm, a typical strong winter cold front will contain thunderstorms which will bring wind gusts equally as destructive as Sunday’s winds. –News.au

Yes both the west and east coasts have been getting battered and the storms hitting the south west coastlines have been incredible! Winds of up to 140 km/hr.

Poppycat is from these areas. I've seen she is still posting on the forums without due mention of these storms so her situation must be okay?

    Poppycat? Olly, olly, oxen free!

$teve, are you safe? Syndey? Anymomentnow? Any other Australian RR members? I'm pretty sure there are more, but my brain can't retrieve the names right now. Are you all okay?

    Hi everyone,

I have put bits and pieces on the end of a couple of posts about the storms (what's for dinner thread for one). Silly place to put it I suppose but it tied in with what we were having for dinner last night

The Sunday storm which hit just as we were leaving church at around 11:15 and got progressively worse as the day wore on was severe and took until lunchtime Monday to blow itself out. Just a few tree branches and lots of junk in the pool for us though. Many had whole trees and power poles and wires come down and at one stage 170,000 were without power. Last night (Tues.) we were supposed to have a similar storm over the city but it concentrated on southern coastal towns and just strong wind gusts accompanyied by heavy showers and a little hail happened. As a forerunner we actually had a tornado in our northern suburbs last Thursday, only get them once in a blue moon. It was strong enough to break windows and take off a roof or two and of course power lines blown down.

Now we have to lug all our outdoor furniture, big pot plants, cat tree-house and sundry other loose objects back outside..sigh...seeing the storm last night was a fizzog Really very grateful to the Lord for all His protection for me and mine

Yep, okay here - the beaches are closed where I live (east coast) because of the high winds lately but all I've had to deal with are slamming doors and some outdoor pot plants being blown over (plus a slightly nervous dog). Thanks for asking.
    Hey, Dad......ARE WE THERE YET?

I envy you guys who live on the coast as I live in {{{freezing}}} Canberra, the coldest populated place in the country! However I think our weather has been a little better than many other parts of the country lately!

I live in a suburb of Perth. The 2nd big storm went through yesteday and cause quite a bit of damage about ten miles south. Lots of nice rain which is well needed to fill the dams, but no power blackouts where I am.

Hi Barry, I too live in Perth and in a southern suburb lots of loud noise and bluster but no real damage and we still have power. Had an intense rainstorm this afternoon though and I can hear lots of drips so maybe some tiles have been knocked out of place.

    Poppycat,

Good to hear that you weren't badly effected by the storm. I am in Mt. Nasura and had no problems.

    Hi
I live in manjimup and tuesday night we had a tree fall on our house(fortunately not much damage, strong house) and another tree flattened our shed, insurance should cover that, but all the rain was good, our rain water tank is nearly full and the dam level is already near the high marker from last winter

Thank You Lord, for protecting our members from Australia!

Wind speed from 87 kmh to 146 kmh, that's 9 - 12 on the Beaufort scale and Category 1 on the Saffir–Simpson Hurricane Scale!

I know what that means, we have it here where I live, every year for several times, yesterday we had a storm up to 105 kmh with wind speed 8 - 11.
