Default Early Summer 2012 Heatwave in the US *Merged*

We are having record heat here in Colorado in excess of 100 degrees. The forests have been dry and there are many fires. This has not been the usual weather here until recent years. The 70s to low 80s are normal for this time of year with afternoon rain showers. We have had little moisture. Our firefighters are spread thin with the massive fire in northern CO that has burned 81000 plus acres. Here in southern CO we have had multiple fires and it seems they are being started by an arsonist. Today was expected to be record breaking heat and around noon a fire started in a canyon popular for hiking on the other side of the hills of Colorado Springs. So far no homes have burned. We pray that there will be no westerly winds as they would bring the fire right into town. You can see the orange glow in the hills to the west of the city. We are also praying that if these fires are in fact intentional that the arsonist would be caught. It has been said that three or more fires in the mountains were started by someone leaving lit candles in trees. I can only imagine the horror in the tribulation when the land is scorched. Thank you Lord for delivering us from that time.

You have my sympathy, we are in winter now (as of June 1st) but struggled through many days straight last summer over 40 deg. celcius. 38 is the old 100F and we also had no rain for months. Think we actually went on to over 40's after a short break and had a fire break out reasonably close that was caused by lightening. Had a couple of fires started by arsonists in our outer suburbs also that destroyed 10 homes. Stupid, stupid, stupid! One arsonist that was caught was from a volunteer fire brigade lighting them up so he could put them out. Stay safe

    Mad Heat

It is horrifying to watch the forest burn even from a distance. I live in Tucson, Arizona and a few years ago our Santa Catalina Mountains burned. It is very heartbreaking even now to travel into those mountains some 10 years later.

I once traveled through your Rocky Mountains in July (36 years ago) and it was snowing/freezing! Being from Arizona we were not too ready for those July temperatures. Now you are roasting in Colorado!

My air conditioner is not cooling appropriately even after repairs yesterday, and our temperatures are in the 105+/- range right now. It is 82 inside my house. I may have to spend the day in my dog's enclosure where there is a misting fan set up!

At any rate, sorry your forests are burning. You don't say exactly where you live but I pray you are not in danger of losing a home to the fires as well.

I'm in Co Springs and am in a safe area. Another town called Manitou Springs at the foot of the mountains was evacuated at 1:30 last night. My elderly father lives closer to it and if his neighborhood is in danger I will bring him over here.
It's nice that others here can identify with this scenario. The nightmare for our firefighters is the relative humidity is less than 10%. If I wanted all the heat I would have moved to Phoenix. Thank you all for your prayers.

    Mad

Thanks for the great big belly laugh! Col. Springs is a beautiful town, what I saw from the freeway anyhow. Have a safe summer.

Colorado is a virtual tinderbox. It reminds me of the summer of 2002, when we had similar conditions and a huge fire going on. The last I heard, we have 9 active fires in Colorado. We're about 60 miles south of the High Park fire and the air here in Denver has been hazy and smokey. We can smell the smoke when the winds blow in certain directions.

    Cross Hot

I am very saddened by the fires in Colorado. I have been following the news about the fires. Here is southern Missouri, our temp is 100 degrees today and it is very dry. We still have a lot of brush and timber from our ice storm three years ago and it is fuel waiting to go up with a careless cigarette butt. I am praying for rain.

In Independence, Mo today our high has been 98 with 102 heat index. I for rain, and relief of this heat. Everyone keep cool this summer!

    I've been hiding inside.

I've been watching the smoke all day in the Springs. Praying for rain and lots of it. It's heartbreaking to see those giant plumes of smoke. I hope they can stop it from burning any homes.

CO Springs is beautiful. We have a vacation planned there but now we might have to change plans.

Hi DragonTiger, as $teve said I live in Perth which is on the west coast of Australia. Summers are very hot and dry usually and our winters are mostly mild. This winter started with a bang though with storms and now very cold.

The skies are clear of smoke this morning, I wish this fire was gone.

We've been breaking records in Florida since January. We barely had a winter, if you can call it that!
Thank you, God, for my salvation!

We are unusually hot and dry in Michigan too.
97 predicted for this week and rain is very hit or miss.
The Lord can't bless what you don't invest.

Please pray for my daughter Lindsey to seek a relationship with Jesus while he may still be found.
