Iran VP says Jews responsible for world drug trade

Iran on Tuesday marked the UN's International Day against Drug Abuse by predictably blaming the Jews alone for the "prevalence of narcotics and drug addiction throughout the world," reported Iran's Fars news agency.

Speaking at a ceremony in Tehran, Iranian Vice President Mohammed Reza Rahimi explained that the Talmud "teaches [the Jews] how to destroy non-Jews so as to protect an embryo in the womb of a Jewish mother."

Rahimi said the Jews' preferred method for achieving this goal is encouraging drug use among non-Jews. As evidence for his position, Rahimi made the laughable and easily disproved claim that "you cannot find a single addict among the Zionists."

Of course, there are plenty of drug abusers in Israel, just as there are in any country.

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Rahimi's outburst was further evidence of a growing anti-Semitic tide that the world must not ignore.

"Hitler also said crazy things and succeeded in carrying out his plan," said Lieberman. Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister, John Baird, condemned on Thursday the racist and anti-Semitic statements made by Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi at a conference on drug trafficking in Tehran.

In a statement from New York, where he addressed a UN conference on countering terrorism, Baird said, “Media reports suggest that Iran’s First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi used an appearance at a UN conference on drugs to make abusive and deeply offensive slurs toward the Jewish people and misrepresent the teachings of Judaism.

“Mr. Rahimi is quoted to have said that the Talmud is responsible for the spread of illegal drugs around the world; this claim is patently absurd.

“Iran’s ongoing use of UN forums to harass Israel and insult Jewish people around the world is completely unacceptable.

“Canada hopes the international community joins us in speaking out against, and utterly rejecting, such ridiculous and anti-Semitic assertions.”

During the conference, Rahimi alleged that the Talmud teaches “how to destroy non-Jews so as to protect an embryo in the womb of a Jewish mother.”

He accused the "Zionists" of inciting drug trafficking claiming, “You cannot find a single addict among the Zionists."

European Union Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton condemned the remarks, saying that “such statements are unacceptable and should not be tolerated,” and reiterating “the European Union's absolute commitment to combating racism and anti-Semitism.”

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman blasted the Iranian regime over the remarks, saying it is composed of “anti-Semitic fanatics.”

Lieberman asserted that “the international community has not yet internalized the great danger that this regime represents for world peace.”

PA Officials: Israel Spreads Drugs Among 'Palestinian' Youth

One day after Iranian Vice President Mohammad-Reza Rahimi was condemned internationally for saying that Jews and the Talmud are responsible for international drug trafficking, no less than five articles in an official Palestinian Authority daily cited different PA officials accusing Israel of having a policy to disseminate drugs among Palestinian Authority Arab youth.

The remarks were exposed by the Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) organization, which monitors PA-based media, translates it and presents it on its website. The organization’s reports often reveal the PA’s incitement to hatred and attacks on Israel.

One of the officials, the Governor of Jericho, said that Israel “is encouraging and turning a blind eye to [drug] dealers and their efforts to distribute drugs, through a systematic policy to destroy Palestinian society, targeting the youth.”

The District Governor of Jenin said that Israel “seeks to harm the Palestinian people and to destroy it and its national enterprise [through drugs] as a continuation of its Zionist enterprise.”

The District Governor of Ramallah mentioned Israel's "efforts to humiliate our youth, to break their willpower, and to distance them from their [Palestinian] cause and their principles, by spreading drugs among them.” She also emphasized that “the occupation does not hesitate to exercise all forms of control over our youth, using dirty and inhuman methods.”

A PA social worker, Sonia Diba, held Israel responsible “for the fact that residents of Jerusalem are falling 'victim to drugs, because [Israel] distributes huge quantities of them, in addition to the increasing unemployment and the lack of centers and institutions in Jerusalem to absorb the children and adolescent youth, causing them to turn to drugs, which are distributed with the aid of the occupation and its branches.”

All the statements appeared in the PA-based daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida on June 27.

PMW noted that this is not the first time that Israel has been accused by the PA of intentionally spreading drugs. Two years ago, an advisor to the PA’s Prime Minister Salam Fayyad claimed that Israel "spreads prostitution and drugs" among Arab residents of Jerusalem.

The PA has also accused Israel of spreading AIDS among PA Arabs. In June of 2010, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida quoted the head of the PA’s drug fighting agency as having said, “This plague [AIDS] is a political problem which is nurtured by Israel.” He spoke at a seminar about drugs organized by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/157408
