Thread: Stinky Japanese red seaweed in Massachusetts

Default Stinky Japanese red seaweed in Massachusetts

Don't know if this is necessarily End Times material, but from what the articles say, this seaweed is stinkin' up the coastline, drawing flies, and discouraging beachgoers. Apparently it looks like piles of hair and is getting into the lobster traps of fishermen (second link). Residents are trying to clean it up.

Kinda puts me in mind of several of the Ten Plagues all rolled into one . . .

I doubt it--Massachusetts is on the Atlantic coast. Sounds like it's a type of invasive non-native species...like Kudzu--another Japanese "gift".

I still maintain that the reason they never found Jimmy Hoffa is because he's in a kudzu patch somewhere. Once something gets lost in a kudzu patch, it is GONE.

Beneath a building or some kudzu....Kudzu is the black hole in the vegetation kingdom--it swallows everything up.

Sounds like 'Red Tide'. Maybe a variant. It happens every decade or so when conditions are (un)favorable.

Some gifts we import entirely on our own.

Others hitchhike on ships (attached or carried in bildges), or nature eventually carries them.
Likely this seaweed was transported by ship or dumped as refuse. Someone's aquarium? Leftover asian buffet?
That's how we got some of the invasive fish.

Red tides (algae/plankton blooms not seaweed) are a different natural problem that man can encourage by feeding it with garbage and runoff.
