What do YOUR Words Say?
By: Maxine M.

God created man in His own image; including a MOUTH equipped with a tongue for uttering sound
Audible, intelligible WORDS…around the world diverse languages abound
Each with words of communication, words to command and direct, words of enlightenment can be found

Informative words of news, messages relayed, stories told, history recorded in detail
Words of elation, consolation, harmony & relief, peaceful words calming our heart’s tempestuous gale
Some words bring sorrow to our hearts…times when only God’s Grace will prevail

We warn, teach, notify, encourage and advise all through the words we speak
Through our words we portray WHO we are inside…proud & arrogant, humble or meek
A truthful honest person who cares about you or one who talks with tongue in cheek

Flattering but insincere words…perhaps OPPOSITE of what you really truly think
Beguiling deceptive words used to gain advantage…accompanied by a sly little wink
Fraudulent words of duplicity are undeniable if you’ve written them in ink

Sometimes we use “religious” words we think SOUND like we’re “spiritual” to the core
But words whispered in secret will be shouted from the housetop bringing shame & dishonor and so much more
For God knows and sees the heart…He notes HYPOCRACY and judges as He has before

Then there’s those secretive idle words of gossip & rumor we so seem to enjoy
Unproven innuendo that ignores TRUTH…often whispered in an attempt to be coy
But in our “thirst” for KNOWLEDGE this is a reoccurring method we seem to employ

The bible calls gossip the business of a busybody…someone active in another’s private affairs
A lowering of Godly standards…we find its stain when we really lay our soul bare
It’s one of Satan’s favorite tools and those who have never succumb are rare

Our tongue has been called a fire…a world of iniquity hard to control
We see from recent wildfires, they are constricted only by a constant patrol
As long as it has fuel it will continue, so removal & dampening of its source is the goal

Jesus said we’d be held accountable for our words, good or bad, so will ours pass the test?
Have we chatted on & on about things that the latest rumor would suggest?
Or have we looked for TRUTH, the GOOD to report…have others, by our words, been blessed?

We are to speak words in prayer…from our mouth to God’s ear
Making our requests known, then quietly listen and to His directions strictly adhere
In faith wait for His answers and provision…the fulfillment of His word made clear

God challenges, can a spring produce both bitter water and water fresh and sweet?
So then how can our mouth bring forth praise…the glorifying of the Father complete
And at the same time utter profanity & cursing; slander and gossip repeat

YOU must decide; pick your words carefully…are they accurate or indiscreet
Are they prudent helpful words, do they spread tactful good-will, is there sincerity when others we greet?
But BEWARE of sowing mixed seed, worthless tares alongside wholesome wheat!

Now Jesus said we should not live by bread alone, but by God’s every word
His commandments of how we’re to live & serve Him and to love one another as we’ve heard
Through the prompting of the Holy Spirit and daily reading of HIS word our hearts are stirred

And we’re to TEACH His words to others; by example put His love on display
Instruct them to be ready for His SOON return…the Rapture for which we watch and pray
Is it hopeful, encouraging, gracious, thoughtful, NECESSARY words we say?

So instead of, “Did you hear what that co-worker did?”…or of the neighbor’s big fight
Ask, “Have you heard about Jesus, His awesome wonder, power and might?”
How He died for YOU…ALL who believe, into His eternal Kingdom He will graciously invite

Yes, the OPPORUNITY to spread the word is a gift…His “Go & Tell” command fulfill
Hearing others say “I now believe” or the Savior’s “WELL DONE”…nothing brings a greater thrill
So give Him COMPLETE control of your tongue…He will TAME it to do HIS will
